Experience with Morden Blush?
Comments (7)OOOPS!! Thanks very much for all the posts!!! The pictures do look my first year with Morden blush. I am keeping an eye on the sprouting cane with suspicion. A real sun-lover - I messed up then, she is actually in a front corner spot that I wouldn't call the most sunny in my small garden - I thought she would be OK there as these roses were bred to be tough. If she is a real sun lover (as evidently my failed Intrigues were, trying a third time) I'll try moving her to a better spot - thank you for all the posts! I miss the pretty flowers I had the first year....See Moreunidentified bug on my morden blush rose
Comments (8)With some playing around I managed to copy and edit/trim the picture so the 'bug' is larger. I didn't even see the little fly before. That must be a tiny tiny fly. Glad that this bug is not lifesize. It only has 2 stripes on its back wings and it is very fuzzy underneath. I have found 2 more. They are also dead now. They do not fly away immediately. Only one did when I was trying to get it with the pliers. They really dig themselves into the center of the rose. They are not on the peonies or any other flower that I have found yet. Comments (10)I planted one two years ago so it's still a bit early for a final verdict. Zone 5b but in an exposed location in my front yard: most of the unprotected canes died back despite the cold hardiness ratings. Other nearby Canadian-bred roses (like Campfire) were about 90% cane-hardy. Bonica which is supposed to have a Z4 rating also had about 90% cane hardiness. The shrub itself has been very small for me, only reaching about 2.5 ft high and a bit spindly. However, that may be partially because of competition from a nearby peony and panicle hydrangea, as well as only being in the ground 2 years. And, of course, the cane dieback. The flowers are small but quite pretty, but I have not gotten a lot of flowers from it. So far never more than 3 at a time on the shrub. If it doesn't show some improvement in year 3 I may dig it out. The spot for it is getting smaller and smaller anyway as the other nearby shrubs keep maturing. You may have more luck than I have if you give it a better spot with less competition....See MoreFirst of 12 Home Depot roses blooming - Morden Sunrise
Comments (7)I here you on the flower types. I no longer grow very many complex flowers as they do not do well for me. I’m happy that I love many types of roses. As far as I’m concerned Morden Sunrise is beautiful. It does need sprayed where I live or well black spot badly. If you were to start a new post asking zone4 rosers for suggestions on what does well for them. You might be surprised by some of the roses they successfully grow.
