Gray- Light Gray Engineered wood floors? Experience or Direction?
Comments (9)The Torlys link will be spectacular...and they will NOT be as low as $3/sf. Torlys is a premium cork brand that has branched out into vinyl, etc. They don't make anything 'budget friendly'. But then again everything they do is FANTASTIC...so no wonder the vinyl floor doesn't feel like vinyl It's from Torlys. A LOW END engineered hardwood is $5/sf. And the amount of head ache that goes with it will be horrible. I would stick with laminate or vinyl in that price range. And for a good laminate you will want to look at the higher priced products = $7/sf. A low-range vinyl can be found for $3-$4/sf. I personally prefer a HIGH END laminate for $4.50/sf instead of a low-midrange vinyl for $4.50/sf....See MoreAnyone have a budget friendly source for dark gray wood wall planks?
Comments (5)Pallet wood is a bit too brutal for the installation, but the idea of wood look plank tile or laminate flooring seems like a good alternative. Thanks for the sources....See MoreIdeal Threshold for Bathroom - Light Wood Floors + Dark Floor Tile?
Comments (3)there is no ideal threshhold. I used a marble threshhold to finish a white tiled bathroom and a wood hall floor. the shower curb is just that, a curb that separates the inside from the outside. I tile up to the exterior with the floor tile and to the inside with the shower tile. Do what makes the cleanest finish. bullnose tiles that compliment the chosen tiles will have a cleaner finish (sharp/cut edges will scratch bare feet). Lay out and cut the tiles completely before you start so you know what you are working with....See MoreTaking wood floor dark to light - dark stain remains in grain/joints?
Comments (21)Sooo new issue - staining the bannister/baluster to match. Painter is here (flooring guys don't/wont do it) and even though he waterpopped the wood, the stain is going on much grayer than the color of the floor. I don't know if it's the amount of water he used (too little), the application technique (damp rag), the lack of drying time (a few minutes!) or what but the waterpopped sample looks indistinguishable from the unwaterpopped - both look grayish. Wondering if I need to bring someone else in to help or if we should try a different stain color blend like weathered oak and bona natural, 1:1. Any thoughts? Also, I'm not thrilled with the sanding job on the baluster - there are quite a few areas where they didn't get the dark stain up, and it's especially bad around the bottom of the newel post. I don't know if this is something I should accept or whether this is subpar work. Would love thoughts from the pros!! Thank you thank you!...See Morellcp93
