Fuel Pump rebuild went bad; fuel in oil
Comments (9)Shucks, I accidentally hit submit . .................................................... Are you quite certain that the gas you are now discovering, was not already in the oil from before you undertook this rebuild? What may be damaged depends on how long the engine "ran" with contaminated and diluted oil. If the engine had been running with gas in the oil before the fuel pump work, I would expect the exhaust would have had a definite blue or blue-white color "smoke" in it. In which case, the most likely components to suffer damage would be the crankshaft rod journal and connecting rod, the piston and cylinder walls might have sustained some "scoring" or galling, but usually, the piston and cylinder of a 4 stroke engine, are "spared" in cases of gasoline contaminated oil in the crankcase. It usually requires that these engines be "run without any oil" before the piston and cylinder walls see damage (of course by that time, the crank and rod is usually "trashed" as well). Consider a 2 stroke engine escapes damage to the piston and cylinder with as little as 1 part oil to 50 parts gasoline. Also consider the the same amount of oil is sufficient to lube the crank main and rod journals in a 2 stroke engine, but ONLY DUE TO the 2 stroke design using ball or roller bearings in those 2 places. Plain bearings in the typical 4 stroke OPE engine will NOT survive long if run with diluted oil. If all the time this engine has actually run with gas in the oil, amounts to a mere 20 to 30 seconds, I believe all you have "suffered" is a solvent washing of the interior surfaces of the engine. Post engine numbers and let's see if we can find some illustrations of that carb. Maybe then we can retrace your steps during reassembly of the pump....See MoreOverwintering Rozanne Cranesbill (Good Idea or Bad...Help!)
Comments (3)The hanging upside down is for Pelargoniums which are not hardy and are commonly but incorrectly called Geraniums. If you do that to Rozanne it will die. Rozanne is a hardy perennial and can spend the winter outdoors perfectly happily. It needs no cosseting. However, I don't know what your winter weather is like in Tennessee or if the ground is frozen. In my climate I'd plant it in the ground immediately and forget about it. Trying to keep it growing with lights will do it no good. Its nature is to die down to the ground in winter and regrow afresh in the spring....See MoreSeams in laminate countertop for island - OK or bad idea - Help!
Comments (10)We had our laminate counters pre fabbed for us, with Wilsonart HD, but we did the install ourselves. To get the seams tight we had to place glue between the two pieces being joined and then there are miter bolts beneath the counters that are tightened to pull the two sections together to get a very tight seam. In our particular pattern you really have to look to see the seams. Solid color laminate will show the seam more easily, but some patterns are barely noticeable. I've had laminate countertops in all but one of my 7 homes in the last 30 years and never ever had a problem with seams and laminate lifting. Nor have I had any ugly seams. As a mom to 4 kids (now grown and gone), trust me there were plenty of spills on my laminates through the years. They all got wet!!! Never had any seams lifting. My biggest problem with laminate is that it's not heat resistant or scratch resistant, although the newer laminates like my new Wilsonart HD is pretty tough and difficult to scratch. If you're doing a solid color laminate I don't think seams would look very nice on your island which may be the focal point of your kitchen. But if you're doing a pattern, i think you'll be fine....See MoreCan anyone help me buy a rug online? Bad idea?
Comments (6)I have bought a few from homedecorators.com and been very happy. Unfortunately, you just missed the ~70%-off clearance sale (I just got an 8x10, a 2x3, and a 2.5x8 for $272, woohoo!) but they've had many good values in general, especially over on the outlet side. There are also usually coupons on the web, google "homedecorators.com coupon" or "homedecoratorsoutlet.com coupon". I've also heard good things about the rugs at overstock.com, too. I haven't purchased from them because my budget is extremely modest, but peerlessrugs.com is supposed to be a very reputable seller as well. I spend a goodly amount of time drooling in the clearance department - there are some real beauts in there, including big names like Karastan. :-) I will not buy from most eBay rug sellers because I think they behave unethically in circumventing the eBay fee structure with very cheap selling prices and outrageous shipping charges. Why eBay permits this I have no idea....See MoreNira Juso
