Comments (42)@Debbi Washburn thank you so much for answering my question about centering the table. It will have all the same flooring etc, as there will be a coffee station on the wall opposite the exterior door that takes up most of the wall with sink, bar fridge, etc. for poolside convenience as well. We have a huge patio out back and the door is the main entrance to our backyard so we need to keep a nice aisle etc. from back door to rest of house. I think we will change out the table for a round one to lighten up all of the rectangles in the space. I think we have room to get a 52" round. We are a family of 5. We will also likely have a working island 6 x almost 3 feet. I know, I know, we have to wait for the KD's plans..but i have a feeling they might be along the same lines. I mean I HOPE they come up with something we haven't thought of that works, but we don't want to move walls either because we LOVE our formal dining room. So I feel like we are kind of limited. (I watch way too much HGTV with all of these massive transformations..LOL)....See MorePlease help! Kitchen Flooring Design Help Needed: Wood, Tile, Other?
Comments (16)I have a bad back and really love standing on my parents' cork kitchen floor, which they had installed 8 years ago. Their floor has weathered well and they have had no problems. This past year we renovated our kitchen and I looked into cork. The market has changed a lot. A ton of companies have been sold and combined. We got samples and did tons of research and couldn't find a company that has as much actual cork in the flooring as what my parents had. Such a small percentage is actually cork and much more of it is just underlayment material. We also had a hard time finding really experienced installers - and we live in NYC where you can find pretty much anything you want. It used to be very popular here but since so few people are using it, there are fewer installers who really know what they are doing. It is not the most beautiful flooring for sure, so in the end we really could not find a reason to use it....See MoreNeed help with kitchen remodel.
Comments (12)do you really like two living zones yet a dining table plopped in the middle of everything...hard to feel segregated and have a quiet dining experience if entertaining or the like...... and fridge adjacent to a "living room" or supposed living room? seems a lot of give away . maybe remove the wall if you want but leave the dining zone where it is. Smaller homes necessarily have to work with one seated eating area and they do their best to use a corner or end of a room so to create a distinct spot. but w your available sq footage I dont get why the dining table has to sit like that . Anyone viewing this home with this sq foot space overall I think would expect a different dining set up. SHOWN: dining zone at end of living room spaces generally.....and any adjacent kitchen wall widening or partial removal would keep the dining zone as a somewhat nicely segregated area....See MorePlease help with kitchen design!
Comments (12)Hopefully the countertop would work out. I like the floors with the cabinets. I agree with waiting on the backsplash - we really need to see the layout to determine if a dark backsplash would look good or will it create a dark "slash" across the kitchen. For me the disconnect is in the knobs/lights/chairs. The styling of the knobs and chairs seems more modern - but the color of the chair is off. The light fixtures don't seem to fit as they come across more of a farmhouse look. They might work better if they matched the knobs. Try tweaking those pieces of the puzzle. I wouldn't worry about the chairs right now - do that after everything is installed. You could do the same with the lights - just let the installers know how many pendants you are doing. Good luck!...See MoreRelated Professionals
