Comments (3)How does one accomodate the smaller size of the Motawi tile in the design? If I'm understanding you correctly, you'll just have a wider joint around the decos, and that would get grouted. And how do I figure out exactly what size the niche should be framed out at to ensure that there will be no cuts needed at the sides and top (other than what's needed for the pattern). Lay some of the tiles out dry on your table. Herring bone isn't that hard to lay out. You're basically laying out steps with one row of steps laying horizontally, and the next laying vertically. Look at a herringbone design. You'll see what I mean, and once you see it in that light, it's not quite so complicated any more....See MoreNeed kitchen design help - please take a look!
Comments (6)I would rather see the stove stay where it is, and the fridge go on the short wall with a panel built on the outside end to hide it. The panel could have a bulletin board and message center with a small shelf below, or even hooks for hanging things, or a collage of family photos, so that it would be interesting when viewed from the entry. I would rather see that than see the fridge head on where the stove is, and then you also have the issues of everything else being blocked when you open the doors. If it is on the end, you can re-hang the doors to open the other way so that they are never in the way of others in the kitchen area. I could see a pantry down near the windows, and a great island in the middle with an overhang on the living room side so that people could sit there and enjoy the view out of the large window. Laughing at the current cabinets - those are what I have in my kitchen!...See Morekitchen floor--wood or tile? Please help.
Comments (18)Another vote for wood here. I've had wood floors in my last 3 kitchens and am doing the same for my current reno. All were finished with bona traffic in satin finish. I prefer wood for all the reasons mentioned above (timeless look, better for back/feet, more forgiving when things are dropped, hate grout). While there will always be things that may "damage" the wood floor (I.e., moving appliances, and we've gotten a small dent but not though the finish from dropping a large glass Pyrex, but the pxrex didn't break!) and they likely won't look "perfect" I still prefer wood over tile in the kitchen....See Moreneed to sign off on tiny galley kitchen design - HELP (please?)!
Comments (31)Carolina Kitchen and Bath - the trash is not next to the range. There is a cabinet between the range and the window. The trash is under the sink. The distance between the wall and island is supposedly 30 inches. As there are other doorways in our home that are this wide (and some smaller) this seemed OK to us. I think the distance from the front of the range to the kitchen island was 36 inches, but I will check....See Moreurzababa
