There's this thing about chairs--you need to sit in them to determine if they are comfortable! Comfort is very personal--what one person finds comfy, another might not. Also color is notoriously hard to select from a computer monitor. I'd suggest going to several furniture stores in your area and actually sit in the chairs, then select the fabric by looking at it in person. The store might lend you the sample to bring home and try in your room.

If you still can't find something you like, would you reconsider reupholstering your wing chairs? If they are fairly old and solid wood, it may make more sense to revive them.

If you are still stumped, maybe try a professional decorator or designer to help you. They have resources not available to the general public and may be able to find you something you really like!

Thanks Diana! Yes, in theory I know I should see, sit and touch the chairs before purchase. Makes the most sense to me now. : ). I might still reupholster the chairs I have. They are pretty comfy!

If you have chairs you like that are comfortable and the frame is still strong, pay the money and have them reupholstered.

In terms of cost, you are probably comparing apples to oranges because your old chairs with new upholstery are going to be off far higher quality than the chairs you are probably seeing now in stores.

And you get to choose from the whole universe of fabrics and not just the paltry selection that you get when you order from a mass marketer. One chair I bought years ago and had reupholstered and now it's going in for its second round of reupholstery - probably technically it's third since I bought it with what was probably its original upholstery :-).

I am having my old chairs and sofa reupholstered in connection with my remodel and I have actually had sofas made by a local upholstery shop - I picked out the frame customized to my specifications exactly and got to select exactly the material I wanted to use.

Your rug is very nice and looks like the correct size for your room. I know you are asking for help with the arm chairs, however, you know how it goes on houzz, we love to get involved so that you are happy with the entire room from soup to nuts!

What I am having a problem with is the actual layout of your room. Like suggested by kjoy1, can you post more pics and also do a thumbnail sketch of the floor plan with overall dimensions and dimensions around the room. It will be easier to determine the lounge chairs.

I agree with everyone about considering reupholstering your existing chairs especially since they are comfortable. Unless you go for the big bucks for a well constructed chair, most chairs now are not constructed properly and have a very short life. What does your original chair look like?

Hi end designer fabrics are available on the internet and they will send you samples too. Consider doing some research.

I hope you still have your original wing chairs. Shop around for re-upholsters and look at getting your own fabric from discounted fabric stores. In the end you will have a much better quality chair frame that sits like your use to and in the fabric that will please you. A year from now you will forget the bit more you had to pay.

Tv is on wall opposite sofa. Interestingly enough, we switched the placement of furniture and the location of the TV based on recommendations from this site! I’ll see if I can repost those pics (though please don’t tell me to switch it back! We had the wiring relocated to move the TV). I’ve never been so challenged by a room. I usually know exactly what I like but I’ve moved to a new place where I don’t know anyone and have had a bout of vertigo thats lingered for 9 months. I really appreciate all the input. : ). I do still have the chairs.

just wanted to update on this in case anyone cares (haha!). Discovered that the original wingback chairs I had in the room were very good quality/high-end so we are having them reupholstered. I chose a laser-cut velvet fabric for the chairs (which I hope is durable). I've attached photos of the fabric in case anyone wanted to see. I've come full circle. Once the chairs are done, I'll move on to drapes! The blue fabric will be on the chairs and the solid will be used for lumbar pillows.

Thanks for the tip Denise! The person doing the reupholstery did mention centering the pattern and also making sure it was identical on both chairs. She seems like a perfectionist (which I love!). I'm excited. I think the chairs will go nicely and I Can't believe I almost ditched them for the Wayfair ones!

I am happy that you decided to keep your chairs, too. Most furniture is made in China now, especially the lower end items. They are good for a few years and then go kaput. Can't wait to see them done.

Late to the party but I LOVE that rug. Where did you buy it? Please say on line? I was going to suggest having slipcovers made by your upholsterer for a lesser price than full upholstery. I too am going the upholstery route and hope it all works out. haha! Saw the rug info; thank you!....you say you have vertigo? I just developed benign paroxymal positional vertigo BPPV from tripping in my bedroom and crashing into my dresser and a side console and really whacked my head....my dr. gave me physical therapy exercises that I did and it was gone, gone, gone in three days! I know you didn't ask but I just had to share my experience; I hope this might be of help and your dr. ca expand on it.....good luck, the dizziness was driving me crazy and waking me up at night whenever I turned onto my right side....a tangent I know but still you never know! Will check the rug on Pier 1!

Susan, I am so sorry about your BPPV. That is what I had initially (dual posterior canals which is tricky to treat). I saw more doctors and had more epley manoeuvres than I can count! I'm so much better now. The spinning from the BPPV stopped but I had some lingering issues from stubborn loose crystals. What a pain! Glad yours came and went so quickly!
