I bought one from Calico Corners 6 years ago and still have it. I would check them out also.

It was my only chair in my last home and has held up extremely well. I just took a quick pic. My living room has not been worked on yet and it is thrown together just for appearance sake for now. I did not want a matching chair to the sofa but the price was right. If you like it they may still offer it. They make great furniture.

I have the same setup with a fireplace at one end of the kitchen and I bought 2 chairs that I wanted to swivel to face the fire OR the kitchen. I had chosen some Thomasville chairs but then I took DH to look too since these would be chairs that we use often. He's a little picky and wanted something with a tall back but not something too puffy, etc. Comfort is important for these chairs. He chose these Henredon chairs and they are extremely comfortable. I love the fact that I can swivel to face either way and the store decorator lady recommended a round table to go between them so that when you turn the chair it doesn't bump the edge or corner of the table so easily. That was great advice and the round works great. We also enjoy the stool for putting our feet up. These are very traditional. Not sure if this is even a style you're interested in but here's a pic.

Mine probably fall into the 70's style you are avoiding. They are comfortable for us but we are short. They are eyebrow chairs, one goes down the left side, on the right side. Nice for lefties (of which I have 1 1/2) and righties like me.

Hi everyone, I checked the Arhaus store, unfortunately none of their stores are near me in eastern PA. As for Calico Corner, they no longer seem to carry the swivel chair. This afternoon I visited Raymour & Flanagan, Gamburgs, Oskar Huber, and Lazyboy. I also checked Mitchell Gold. One salesman who helped me agreed there's very little in the swivel chair market. I'm going to keep at it, but I've exhausted all the obvious options...

I think every manufacturer makes stylish swivel chairs so not really sure how to answer. Depends what you want to spend, really.

Did you look at Lee yet? People seem to like their product. I have looked at the fabrics and think they have a great selection.

I called the Thomasville store in my area and they said they had a few. I'll be visiting them today. It seems the "entry" price for swivel chairs is $1000 each at Thomasville. I hope that means they're nice! I'm slowly checking out all the other recommendations. I don't know about Wesley Hall, mainly because there isn't a dealer in my area. I do want to try chairs out for comfort before buying.

Judithn, be sure you ask as you look in the better furniture stores. They may have a swivel version of a chair that they only have on the floor in non-swivel. You won't be able to try the swivel effect, but you will know the comfort level of the chair itself, which is the main concern.

If you can't find swivel chairs, have you considered the more traditional chairs that have the wheels on the front legs? Those would allow you to turn the chairs with some ease, without having a swivel chair per se. I am thinking along these lines:

I recently was watching Sarah Richardson on TV, and she said had swivel mechanisms put on a pair of vintage chairs she had found for the room she was doing. She said the cost was about $150. You may want to check with an upholsterer to see how easy it is to put them on. The upholsterer could tell you what kind of base you need on the chair in order for them to add it.
Definitely check out Les' link to Lee Furniture. All of my upholstered pieces are from them, and they are wonderful. I have chairs with the wheels, they do mark up my hardwood floors and are a bit hard to turn on my rug. I did get a Lee slipcovered swivel glider for Emmas' nursery that I love. It is a wingback style, model #138-01. It's in the Coveralls section of their site.

Don't know if you care if it reclines, but Barcalounger makes a nice swivel chair. DIL just bought one and had it covered in a gorgeous paisley fabric.

I had some good club chairs that I had recovered and had a swivel mechanism put on them. They are great - stable & sturdy - and I got what I wanted using something I already had!

I love those chairs! Unfortunately, I only have room for a single chair. Your chairs make me want to clear out some stuff and make room for some eyebrows.

Most manufacturers can put the swivel mech. on their chairs.

Norwalk did for me.

I really like the idea of fitting a non-swivel chair with a swivel mechanism. I have the same issue as several above - I want a chair to face two different areas. I want to make a chair-and-a-half swivel. Is there something I should look for in the construction of the chair I choose? And is this a common enough modification that an upholsterer will know what I'm talking about and where to get the mechanisms? Thanks. . . .
