What do you think I should do in this little flower bed?
Comments (8)I always like the bad news first - the crepe myrtle is too close to the house and should be moved while it still can be. The boxwood will eventually outgrow it's little space, but that can take a hard pruning to keep it for a few years. The fallen leaves are okay. The silvery plants are Dusty Miller - and I think the snaps, plumbago, alyssum, and dianthus are fine. A nice change from the tortured into submission evergreens in some yards. Snaps will wilt when they need water; but they'll put out more bloom spikes if you pinch off the spent ones. Your conditions in zone 8 are much different than mine in zone 4 - we rarely get prolonged heat enough to bake a garden like you probably do in Houston. I wouldn't plant anything directly over the buried downspout extension - too easy to forget it's there and slice through it with a shovel or something. Some more snaps underneath the arrow, some more allysum on the up side of the dianthus and you're all set....See MoreHelp! What color should I paint my house!
Comments (2)I like the idea on your garage door being dark oak -- maybe consider a creamy beige or gray for your trim. Some unique shutters on those two front windows may add some "pop" too....See MoreWhat should I feed my flowers?
Comments (16)Yes, Osteospermum. These 2 pictures are of the daisies. The pink is the one that’s going strong and not much of a problem except aphids have started attacking almost all my plants which wasn’t an issue last year. Orange is not doing as well as the pink. The leaves are sparse and eaten by I don’t know what. I don’t see anything on the plant except aphids, no snail trail. May be something that comes at night? The second picture shows the African daisies. Yellow is dull probably because they are old flowers and the white has lost all the flowers that where there when I bought from the nursery. There are buds but no new flowers. Is it just slow getting adjusted to the new environment? You can see the Anemones in the second row. After constantly knocking the aphids out last 2-3 days they look better. They only have 2-3 flowers each, may be that’s normal idk and the petals are not as big and deeply cupped as they were at the nursery. This is my first time growing these, so may be I have to set my expectations right?...See MoreHelp! What color should I paint my garage door?
Comments (13)can you take a larger pic of the home? If you want to moderize the look, I'd remove the shutters, get a a more modern front door, and prob redo the garage door this is a modern look so is this one. look how they did the garage door and the yard surrounding it. the arbor is a nice touch too something along these lines. Also, the landscaping really needs an overhaul to complete the look. those shrubs do nothing for the home. look at this after shot of the flower beds. you have that tall spot on either side of the window. you need some tall plants there. redo the flower beds and bring in a vertical plant Here's another nice yard makeover, new garage door and the darker contrast color w/the brick. if you want to try the paint, here are some colors that work w/the brick...See Morekalyhope
