Teeny Tiny Powder Room Challenge

We're working with a super tiny space: 46" x 44". Current Existing rough-in is 14" inches, severely limiting our toilet options, as well as our sink options.

We opted for the 18" Roosevelt pedestal sink by fine fixtures because we really like the look of it, as well as how the sink itself is configured (many 18" sinks don't even have a place to put soap). However, there is no matching toilet... not even close. We're eyeing the Kohler Wellworth as it is one of the less expensive 14" rough in options. It's either that or the Cadet PRO. Neither one have anything in common with our sink, other than that they are both white.

Is this going to look ridiculous? We had no idea, going into this project, that the toilet had a 14" rough in. It's going to cost too much to move the rough-in, so we're stuck with whatever fits with that. I don't want to get a 12" and have it sit 2" from the wall, and we can't afford the loss of 2" anyway from pushing the toilet further into the room.

I feel very stuck.

That site, https://www.supply.com/toilets/c368?src=lhn&d=368-4283594549 sells Toto but not the 14" rough in, only 10" & 12" rough in. Toto adds $95 to the cost of the toilet for the 14" rough in. The MSRP for those three toilets are $1131, $1251 and $1553. I'm sure some plumbing supplies sell them for less than full MSRP.

Post a layout. This may not work at all. There are code required clearances.

We are in the middle of a bathroom + mudroom/pantry/powder room remodel. The powder room is 30" x 7.5', so we have the same narrow width but some extra length. Now that the wall is up, I see how narrow the room is! We re-did a very small (5' x 8') full bath last year, and I needed a toilet that was narrow and did not come out too far. I used the Toto Promenade, round front. The model has changed now to the Toto Eco-Promenade, so the dimensions might have changed, but the width was only 18" and the depth was reasonably short. I have another Promenade that I bought a few years ago for the (old) downstairs powder room, and I will be re-using it in the current remodel.

Thanks all, especially @elunia for the images which showed how both options would look (and those powder rooms are the exact same layout as what ours will be). I think away from the toilet makes the most sense for us as well @patricia colwell consulting. @sofaspud - door will open outwards, but otherwise yes, it was a helpful consideration lol. @tatts - it's brand new, so it could be plumbed either way.

juliab51 thanks for your feedback on living with a 3x8 room painted dark. It's hard for me to visualize anything, so I'm worried it will feel too small. (I'll also have a pocket door). Your vanity looks great. I was trying to figure out how they fit that dresser in the room (I had assumed I'd need to order a custom cabinet.). It looks like maybe the dresser is 1-2" narrower and they trimmed it out so the trim looks like part of the furniture (and then painted it all the same color). If so, that's brilliant. Unfortunately, I don't have a dresser that size and I'd still be on the hook for a custom fabricated counter (my understanding is that fabrication alone is more than $1k--more than the price of the entire console sink with stand). But I love that look and would do it if I were married to a fabricator ;) HALLETT & Co. thanks for your feedback. I'd love to put a medicine cabinet in there (and love the look of yours) but I don't think I can do one recessed. (we haven't demo-ed yet, but it seems unlikely, based on where we think the studs are). So you installed all tile on that one wall only? Interesting. I like that you have a bunch of art on the walls. I'm considering put original paintings in there, maybe one over the toilet and one across from the doorway when you walk in. But you did a bunch of art. Inspiring!!! (and yeah, it looks like juliab51has lots of art too. This might be a way to go (vs. using wallpaper)

I don’t think the OP wants to spend $2000+on a toilet. Here are some other options, including a multitude of Wellworth models that you won’t find at the box stores. I’ve ordered from this site with great success (excellent customer service.) Also, it’s the largest distributor of Toto toilets in the US and they can order any Toto product that isn’t stocked.

Sophie, we are replacing a toilet and sink that already exist, so we know it works, our options are just very limited.

beanie, you are correct... $2000 for a toilet is steep for a bathroom the size of a coat closet, lol.

Yes, I seem to have focused on the higher prices, lol. The Aquia IV is only $599. Supply.com ordered Toto parts for me that weren’t in stock. I bet they can get a Toto 14” rough-in. I suggest the OP call them to find out. As pamal66 noted, actual prices will be less than MSRP.

Your existing space is probably in violation of code requirements for clearances right now. You need to have a minimum of 21" of unobstructed space in front of a toilet, and most toilets stick out from the wall anywhere from 24"-28". Since you haven't provided a diagram, I can only guess here, but you will be lucky to have just a toilet fit into that space legally; there's definitely no room for a sink, too.

Where I live, old spaces are grandfathered. I replaced an old toilet that didn’t have side clearances per current code. The code enforce officer isn’t even interested in interior work that doesn’t involve major renovations (rural area.)

Beanie, same here. This house is from the 40s, and there's a lot of stuff not to current code, but unless we've done major gut work, no one has ever seemed concerned about it. Heck, half of our outlets are still two-prong, ungrounded and a well-regarded electrician in the area thought it was funny that I wanted to pay to ground the remaining outlets, lol. It's an old, small house in the country.
