I don't know of a similar table available but would caution you on using that as a kitchen table. To me, it looks like its designed as a display, or casual table, because the base is so wide where it contacts the floor that you might have great difficulty getting chairs to get close to the table (legs contact with base). Before you buy, get the diameter of the base and lay it out on your your floor as a piece of cardboard. Cut a second piece of cardboard in a 51" circle. Using your chairs, see if you can get close enough to the table 'top' (hold it in place with your hands) to make it all work. -Duane

So sorry but I can't manage to show photos... I am planning to purchase a Room & Board Aria Pedestal Table. I have fallen in love with the R&B Cora chair and trying with all I've got to accommodate these chairs. I'm getting the Sym Ink fabric on the chairs. Do you think a 36" Aria table will be too small for 2 chairs? We can accommodate up to a 42" table with only 2 chairs. We don't want the Cora chairs (22"w x 21"d) to overwhelm the 36" table. Is a 42" the way to go? Will the 42" look odd with only 2 chairs?). (Our dining area is 9'4" w x 15'.3" long but the way it is built we loose about 4' of actual dining space lengthwise. Also.....I realize tempered glass can scratch and needs consistent cleaning and walnut needs good care, too. Does anyone have opinion on the clear glass vs the walnut top? I can't decide on the walnut or clear tempered glass top to go with the graphite base. I feel the Syms Inc fabric would look nice with the warm walnut but also the clear tempered glass. All opinions are greatly appreciated.

I did. I found a source for a stone that I couldn't source locally no matter how hard I tried. Loved the photos, had a sample sent to me that I could abuse to be sure I was happy with it, then had a second sample sent so I could see a bit more of the colour variation possibilities, then ordered two slabs which were shipped to me from across the country (several days drive or many hours of flights+car rental were both out of the question for me). I had issues with the fabricator which is totally unrelated to ordering the stone without seeing it, but the supplier was excellent and the stone was exactly what I wanted, even better than I thought. It was risky, but necessary in order to get what I really wanted (a hard enough soapstone in a large enough slab with a dark enough base) I had no other choice. And FYI, I was relatively flexible about the colour variations that I couldn't see the details of, and my soapstone is quite dark - perhaps not as affected by different lighting. To me the hardness and the size were the most important features, neither of which was related to the stone in person. I was on pins and needles waiting to actually see it, and had several "what the heck were you thinking" moments along the way. I think I'm pretty lucky that it was even more beautiful in person than I had hoped. If you can't take that kind of stress, and if the drive/childcare situation is feasible it might be worth seeing them in person.

annkathryn The sealer prevents absorbtion, but can't prevent the chemical reaction of acid on calcium carbonate. Absolutely. Just because a place gets etched doesn't mean it will stain later. As an aside most, if not all, samples of marble are not sealed (at least they aren't in my neck of the woods). I have no stains on my counters and we consistently get coffee blobs and other things that stay on the marble for HOURS without notice. No stains. None. nini804 My little etches come and go....I think they "fade" away, but then I get a new one, I don't know...it seems to be a dynamic process. I have wondered this as well. We have had our marble in for 18 months. I used to "polish" the marble every other week (or I did the first year, LOL!)and took pics of one etch as an experiment. These pics show the same etch over time. It was the first etch that I ever noticed on our marble so it really stuck out to me at first. I don't even realize that it's there anymore (I haven't looked and probably wouldn't think twice about it anyway). First etch, circa March 2011: Same etch, different angle: Same etch (could there BE another? Probably not, as it looks like WC Fields nose), about 4 months later. It's not as pronounced, is it?: I have often wondered if the Marble "Polish" actually subtly etches the surface even more after time. I have no idea, yet I just don't worry about it anymore.
