Happy the event went off so well. I'm going to keep your menu in mind for when I have to host a similar gathering. It's often hard to put together easy to serve foods that are complementary.

Thanks for all your feedback but nothing sounds like what I remember. Let me re-state it.... I call it a bread because it was probably flour, salt, water and maybe a bit of fat. It was about 12" by 12" square. It was a package of maybe 6 of those squares. It was in plastic wrap and not refrigerated as I may have said earlier. To use it you would lightly sprinkle water on it and then spread something like cream cheese, turkey, cheese, cucumbers etc., anything yummie. Then roll it up like a log and refrigerate it overnight. In the morning cut it into 1" logs. As I think more about this I probably did this in the 80's not 1960's. Even if I can't buy it anymore I might be able to come up with a recipe and try it myself. Sure Pat, I'm not sure this will qualify for your Louisiana favorite but it is good tasting. Quantities are not exact. You can adjust to your liking. Olive Salad Spread pimento stuffed green olives,black Greek olives,Calamata olives --we get our olives from the olive cart in the deli. 2 spoonfuls of each olive type. Maybe 16 of each type? 2 TBS capers, drained 1 celery stalk, chopped 2 carrots, chopped 2 roasted red peppers in oil, chopped 1 sml red onion, chopped 2 tsp celery seed 2 tsp oregano 3 cloves garlic, crushed fresh ground black pepper to taste olive oil, start with 1/4 cup, you may need more Put all ingredients into food processor. Pulse a few times to break down the veggies into small bits. You want the consistency to be of a paste for spreading but still be able to see the veggies. Put the spread into a covered bowl and let marinate over night. It keeps for about a week in the fridge. Hope this helps in your search Pat! NancyLouise

I was good friends with a girl in elementary school that had a severe peanut allergy. We were in 2nd and 3rd grade grade back in 1958/1959. People were well aware of allergies back then. She knew she had to avoid not only nuts but other items that may have nuts in them. Her mother was a nurse and didn't obsess over her allergy. Simply took common sense precautions. Nestle's Krisp candy bars packed in her lunch instead of Mr. Good candy bars, ice cream "crunch" bars that didn't get the crunch part from nuts etc. The only time I remember an incident was when she used a knife to spread something at a Xmas party that had just been used for peanut butter and someone had wiped off enough to look clean but still have some residue on it. She had an allergic reaction, mom took her to the ER to be given a shot ( probably adrenaline) checked over and that was that. No drama, no hysteria over peanut dust or smell. No demanding peanuts be banned in the classroom or cafeteria. Allergies have always been with us.
