Happy Mother’s Day - roses and gardening!

Today in the states is Mother’s Day. I hope all the mothers on the forum and enjoying a little down time, celebratory time or whatever they most want to do! Friday my order from Greenmantle Nursery arrived, so yesterday was spent potting up new Rosa Mundi for the shade garden, and Aloha for the terrace to replace the Crepuscule we lost this year. I loved the Greenmantle ordering experience - very lo-tech - and plants were well packed for shipment and look very healthy! Today planting in-ground delivery from Monticello: Virginia bluebells (Mertensia Virginia), Black Cohash (Cimicifuga racemosa), and short-toothed Mountain Mint (Pycnanthemum muticum). Now we’re in for a few days of cool and wet weather, perfect for the new plantings. Check out the buds on a pegged cane of Bourbon Queen! She only gets about 3.5 hours of afternoon sun!

What are you doing today?

Rosa mundi from Greenmantle

Buds on Bourbon Queen starting to swell with color!

This is looking down the spine of one pegged cane - the shorter cane shoots alternate left/right off the main pegged cane. So cool!
