How to treat different types of Morning Glory seeds
Comments (9)You wouldn't like how I treat Morning Glory seeds! I rip the plants out of the ground when they sprout, burn them, spray them with roundup, and plow them under! :) They are a nuisance weed around here. I think that you could just throw them on the ground where ever you want them to grow! But then they will be growing in your neighbors gardens and everywhere else in a short time! I'm not trying to be an a-hole. But I just don't understand why people want to plant them! They are very destructive and invasive. Maybe you don't know that? OK, the blooms are kinda pretty to look at, in someones yard far away from me. But I think to myself every time that I see someone has planted them. Someone else is going to suffer because of this! It is as bad as Kudzu! Here is a link that might be useful: nuisance weed...See MoreMorning Glory vines - ouch!
Comments (31)keesha I am figuring you are gonna love this story. remember the plight I was having with wanting to keep the morning glory tradition alive? well......it is definately alive... Here is a pic of how it almost completely covered my little arbor yesterday morning I was enjoying my morning coffee while looking out at my overgrown arbor yesterday afternoon I was standing at my window wondering what happened to my arbor....the morning glories totally weighted it down to the point where it broke and fell over...lol I went out and tried to pick it up and I couldn't cause it was too heavy! I just shake my head and say...look,Mom...I did this for you...lol I will still have them. Just next year I will have to be more vigilant at keeping them at bay..(or buy a much stronger arbor) lol...See Morehyacinth bean vine, morning glories, both or neither????
Comments (6)FYI, I'm in Zone 5 in Michigan, and MGs reseed quite readily for me. My MIL lives less than an hour from Buffalo, and our temps are usually quite similar, so I would think MGs would reseed there as well. However, IMO MGs aren't that big a deal if they reseed and you don't want them -- just pull them out or mow them down and they won't get a chance to grow and set seed the next year....See MoreMorning Glory?? Comments (31)That's good to know. A lot of sites, including university extension sites, suggest leaf shape is distinguishing. My intent was never to let them run wild. It's to keep them away from the tomato plants they try to climb and yank them out when they root. If that becomes unworkable -- which I doubt -- I'll be more aggressive though without chemicals. I think the risk in my case is somewhat limited. I have a concrete patio with garden beds. This is in the heart of the city. There isn't a large patch of actual ground anywhere nearby. This plant, whatever it is, hasn't got a lot of opportunities to make mischief. Last summer it only interfered with a single bed that's beside the fence it crawls on. I'm curious, since these plants look so much alike, what would you look for in a picture to make a determination. Can you not just describe that?...See Moredirtygardener
