Need help with paint choices two story foyer w/chair rail
Comments (32)I wanted to post some after photos and thank everyone who took the time to comment. It turns out that the wall was "indented" when we removed the chair rail so my DH has spent several weekends to build it back up with joint compound and texture it to blend in with the walls. It was a painfully tedious process (first trying to do it by hand, then with a sponge, then with spray-on compound that dribbled everywhere, and finally with a trowel lightly loading dabs of compound on). If you look closely you can still tell, but it's not as glaring as it was several iterations ago. Suffice to say, we are thrilled to be done with sanding, priming, texturing, and painting! Now, I need to figure out what wall decor to put up as the removal of the chair rail makes it a much easier space to deal with! Any and all advice would be appreciated. I was thinking of doing a photo gallery near the front entry, but that is a HUGE wall and I don't know that I can put photos high enough where you can still see them but not so low that the wall looks off-balance. Forgive the quality of the photos, taken without a flash on my iPhone....See MoreI need help with this two story foyer wall color.....ideas please.
Comments (16)Yes, to your first question. You can see the lower TV room ceiling here and how it opens to the foyer. That walkway measures 47" width ( including future baseboard.) I thought a post against that wall would balance the newel on the other side and allow for a "separation" between spaces? I don't know what the color should do in this area? My husband wants the darker brown for the TV room. Also, our color "cocoa" drives me crazy- it goes pinky (flesh beige) with an east facing window light-(the picture below was taken this morning) and goes blue(brown) and relaxed in the evening with sconce/lamp light. I love the color in the evening. Most mornings, I think I need to repaint! Thanks for your interest....See MorePendant height in two story foyer and staircase
Comments (23)for heaven sake, six months after completion this light will just be passed by as you go up and down the stairs! You cant really look at a light fixture as you go up or down stairs because you have to look where you are going, for the most part people will look at this from the ground floor dont get too hung up on the 4 points. I would point out that the can lights will have a cut off where the light reaches and the light fixture will cause major shadows, so the balance of wall sconces will be good....See MoreTwo Story Foyer Decorating Dilemma!
Comments (8)I think your entrance could become much more welcoming, so before buying a rug, maybe look at inspiration pictures to select the right style vs just the right size. Based on the walls and the black chandelier, modern farmhouse could be a great look. Don’t have to do everything at once, but if you have a plan, it will be coordinated as you make updates. Would place a very large rectangle rug, placed after the staircase, so it makes that wider area more prominent and highlighted by the decor Suggest moving your table and art to the upstairs landing and now you can coordinate the whole space using a longer console with art or mirror on the long wall. If you add baskets on floor it will help hide the heating element. Where your previous table was, add a bench and hooks, both being really handy You could paint the interior door black if owner allows On upper wall of staircase a set of large family prints would be very nice...See Morechickadee70
