Maria Killam's blog could be helpful. She discusses palettes a great deal.

For my taste, if you are talking about color on walls, you have too many: yellow, white, sage, terra-cotta. I would be inclined to choose one light neutral for the walls- with me, that would be a buttery white for the majority of the walls. Then I would see if there were not a room that was closed off that could benefit from a rich color like the terra-cotta, maybe the dining room? The sage and yellow would then feature prominently in my upholstery, curtains, rugs. An kilim with terra-cotta and sage, a tan sofa with sage accent pillows, I am having a hard time adding yellow to this mix. Yellow accents in the kitchen would be nice.

But that is just me- and I am no pro. But that is a palette I like a great deal and very similar to mine.

My first suggestion is for you to decide on the orientation of the house. Let’s start with the sunroom and dining room. From where does that light come?

All the colors you love are warm, earthy tones and that is great; but all are going to be impacted by the sunlight.

North light…here is a good spot for yellow….B.M. Goldtone.

South facing room…this you will have to try a sample on the wall, but a good color off the burnt russet room could be B.M. Edgecomb Gray.

Judy- The light comes from the windows : / that's the only real knowledge I have right now. We're still in closing so I am not IN the house yet. I do know that the only real dining room light comes from the sunroom (no real windows in dining room).

Rita- yes that is my fear! I always go too far lol. Too many colors. Too bold. Too too too. I'd like to have more than 2 paint colors though. You only have 2 colors?

SW also has color palette cards that will help you pick colors that don't clash. I used one for my last house and was really happy with the results.

Similar to mine also -- in my small house I have Behr Navajo White on the walls (in living, dining, upper hall and one bedroom) which is a soft yellow or yellow-beige, depending on the room and time of day; one bedroom is a Glidden soft sage green; another is a deeper, more caramel-y yellow. I have sage green curtains in the living and dining and a terracotta- ish (tends more coral -- has more pink than a terracotta pot), yellow and tan rug; The sofa is a greenish brown or brownish green. The floors are natural red oak.

The colors all produce a warm but calm effect and since they aren't really vivid, they read fairly neutral and flow together. I have other small color accents as well -- in artwork, lamp, pillows.

For major colors I think the 4 that I have are the max that can work --IMO.

I've not read Maria Killam but have seen multiple positive mentions here, so I would check out her blog for sure.

Corinne, while I love color in textiles and art, I am not fond of a lot of color on walls for my own houses. I favor white walls (BM Chantilly Lace,) and colorful art and fabrics. I have long dreamt of having a red dining room, but that has not come to pass yet. My current dining room has one entire wall of very modern, floor to ceiling windows, no color on those walls either.

Ok- I do understand what you all mean. Less color to make other colors pop. The one color I can't let go of is the sage green. I mean, it is light. I'd really like a neutral buttery white too..

Also Bri- your color suggestions are really awesome. Did I mention that?

Sherwin Williams has many suggested color palettes - colors designed to compiment each other. I used one of their HGTV palettes and was really pleased.
