I know I probably went overboard, but I have been searching Houzz for shower/tub combos for myself if I decide to go in that direction. Most of these pictures have Master Bath titles - they tend to be small houses or apartments in large cities where space is an issue. They all have a generous sized tub. A few have extra shower bling and even a separate tub filler. All of them have material choices and the level of tile work that you see in a master bathroom. I'm sure that if I searched Houzz I could find just as many, or even more, remodels of small master baths where they have just built a walk in shower. I think the decision to do a shower/tub may be a personal choice because they want a soaking tub - since they are titled Master I'm assuming the bath is not the only bath in the house and they could easily just go with a shower. Catbuilder - the outlet high on the wall works fine if you are only using the handheld during showering or for cleaning but not if you want to use it while laying in he tub. If you have a normal 59" hose and the starting point is way up high on the wall and you are sitting in a 60" tub with your head at the other end and want to wash with the handheld it won't reach. You would need a much longer hose and I don't want a super low hose (like 80") dangling down all the time. Hollysprings - I actually have a Jason air tub with integrated flange that I purchased for a steal on Craigslist. No, I have never used an air tub. I would love to find a showroom near me where I could test one out.

This doesn't sound like a situation that will work for a tub shower without one of the old fashioned "ring" shower curtain assemblies that have a shower curtain that fits inside the tub. Any other treatment for a tub with a deck will just leave water on the deck to drip out onto the floor.

We are shower people, but keep a Kohler Bellwether bathtub in the hall bath in case there is a need to bath a baby or young child in the future. The tub is surrounded by 3 ceiling height tiled walls. The bathroom is 13.5 x 5 feet. I hate the look of by-pass glass doors. In addition, I think it is super uncomfortable for a person to bend over a door track when cleaning the bathroom with doors right next to the person. We then were set to use frame-less custom made glass enclosure. But the more I read, (there are a few postings on this forum regarding this subject) the more I 'simulated' cleaning the bathtub and its surrounding through a frame-less glass enclosure, the more concerns I had for safety and the ease of cleaning. Finally I decided to use an extra long shower curtain from Restoration Hardware instead. We wipe dry bath tub and walls after each shower. I am so glad we have a shower curtain there. I don't think using shower curtain is of a less upscale look, even if it is, I would choose 'practicality' over 'look' any day.
