Botched stain and painting job advice needed
Comments (2)Wow! I feel so bad for you. Shame on your contractor. Hopefully you didn't pay this guy. Turn him into the Better business bureau. I'm sure you know the only right way to fix this major mess. Start over. Your going to have to sand the stain off all the wood stair parts (3 steps: using different grit sand paper. 60, 120 and 220 would work nicely. The iron, you could sand or check out a paint remover at your local paint store or lumber yard you can apply to metal and wipe off. You can do this yourself. After sanding everything down tape off wood to paint iron first. Then stain all your wood stair parts last. There are good people out there that take pride in their work and do an excellent job. Next time ask for references and ask to see pictures of previous work. We have a portfolio that We share with our clients and give reference names and numbers. Good Luck -laura...See MoreHow to fix 1" gaps in drywall seams?
Comments (14)Just my opinion, but if the drywall is solidly attached to the studs and isn't flexing and doesn't move when you push it, then I would assume that any settling is done and nothing is going to move. I would finish the walls and see what happens. By the way, there is a comment on the other thread about first filling in the gaps with some expansion foam and/or pre-caulk filler rope. That might be a good idea since it it an outside wall. Also, there is a professional drywallers site with forums called drywalltalk.com. They might have opinions on whether this is just crummy installation or structural movement....See MoreCountertop Fabrication Botch Job - What Would you do?
Comments (4)The answers to all your questions is yes. But next time, please do your homework on the company that you choose to do the work. There’s a lot of jack legs out there and it appears you found one. Ask for references and he offers to put you in contact with say 2 of his clients to check his work, ask to see at least 10. Hope you had a contract specifying exactly what was to be done and any recourse available to you. And make sure their licensed and insured. Hope this can be resolved without a mountain of stress and frustration for you....See MoreBotched paint job. Now what do I do?
Comments (8)You mean 'how can you help your daughter talk to the painters for resolution?' You and your daughter should go through the whole home and put blue tape everywhere you see a problem. Then you should coach your daughter on the art of effective complaining in which she calmly points out all the problem areas and what she expects them do to fix it. Your daughter is not supposed to be the expert in fixing paint problems because that's why she hired the contractors; it's neither one of your responsibility to problem solve for the painters. But because they did such a crappy job you might have to be the problem solvers. It doesn't appear they did anything to prep the walls and it doesn't look like they protected any of the floors and cabinets. Of course they should clean the linoleum such that they don't do further harm to the linoleum. They should clean all the cabinets such that they don't do further damage with their cleaner. They could sand and prime the uneven areas and repaint again but it'll probably require repainting the whole wall. Based on the few pictures you provided this is not touch up but full repaint in some areas....See MoreSusan C
