ice storm today 12 pics- links
Comments (12)Karen, I love pic #9 :-) On the other hand, I always cringe when the temps are hovering between snow and rain in the late winter/early spring...that's usually when we get ice storms if we get them. They can be so destructive-- not to mention living for days without heat, having everything in your freezer spoil, no hot water to take a shower.... Although I do have fond memories of having a turkey dinner in March with my best friend and her family. We ate by candlelight-- out of necessity-- and sat around the table next to the warm oven for hours, yelling at anyone who came in from outside and didn't shut the door quick enough...lol. Comments (17)Thank you everyone for the well wishes. Yes, nothing really to complain about as no lasting damage in my garden. The tomatoes will taste wonderful and that is only the begining of tomato season. Lots more to come. The plants will be fine. I went and cut off any broken branches on them and they are already picking up. Jean and everyone. That was a very old historic structure in the park. There is already a newer bigger one that they use as the bandstand for the summer concerts but the old one is part of our history. Sad to see it crashed. I could always see the water from my front porch, better in winter with the leaves down than in the summer. But with the two trees dopwn that went down I am amazed at my new view. Clear down to the water straight thru the park with no obstructions. I just sat out on my porch and watched all the cleanup and goings on....See MoreJust a couple for today, 9/14
Comments (12)Thank you all for the comments. Glad your enjoying the pics. I'd rather see blooms than the white stuff on the ground. COTTAGE CANDY is a keeper. VICTORIAN LACE survived but its bloom is butt ugly and doesn't even look like VL. It tried to open yesterday and seems to be hung up. I went back here on the forum and looked at posters photos and sure doesn't have the same coloring. I'm not sure if its a weather thing or the wrong plant. Time will tell. Kathy: Yes, the picture quality is just as good inside as out. I use a Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XT with a telephoto lens that has IS. I haven't ever taken the lens off and put back the original lens back on since I started using it. I think I will try it just to see what the difference in picture quality would be outside. I love this camera even if it is heavier than the Canon Powershot SD800 IS, which I also have. Vickie: I reset the camera so that if the CF card is not in the camera it will display a message. But you are right...I did get to go back out and visit the garden again ;-). As a tip, if you want to know what camera someone is using for their pictures, settings, etc, you can click on the photo and typically it will take you to the posters album photo in whatever web hosting site they are using. You will see on the right side "Photo Info" which you click on the little arrow next to it (Photobucket) or it will open with all the Photo Info listed (Picasa). Also know that if you haven't marked your albums as "Private" anyone can access all your photo albums, if that matters to you. Julia...See MoreA Couple of Pics From Today
Comments (12)Hi everyone. Thank you for looking and commenting. I love the trees, but they would destroy our house if they were uprooted in a storm...and you know how these storms are here. The house is a decent size, 2000 sq ft, but the trees really dwarf it and the one nearest to the house hangs all over the roof. We just have to find someone who has the courage to tackle these big trees. The Hot Lips salvia is three years old, and the Navajo salvia on the right is about 10 years old. Behind the Hot Lips is a huge clump of Black and Blue Salvia, and I have a couple of others in the butterfly garden. They are all blooming right now. Ellie, weather is always a question in regard to blooms, isn't it? Judy, Leave a few pictures of big trees that have fallen on houses around...that might encourage the removal. Jean, I love the look of Magnolias, but they are messy. Celeste, the daylily blooms actually opened today, and the salvia, Lantana. and zinnias are blooming away, but the roses are what I am enjoying. They are happy because it is cooler. Linda, I am enjoying the retirement. We do have a row of mainly big oaks on the back of the property that we intend to leave. Rita, I had thought you had gotten Hot Lips, but I guess that was last year. Once something gets started here, you have to work to kill it, and that isn't always a good thing as you can imagine. kay...See MoreEsther-B, Zone 7a
