Brass hardware on antique sideboard
Comments (1)The hangey down things are called "bails" and the back is an escutcheon. Are these things colonial period antiques? or victorian or reproduction pulls on an old piece. The thought occurs to me you maybe should not be polishing them...or perhaps they have been laquered and you need to remove the laquer before polishing them. Anyhow....remove them and put them in a non metallic basin cover with very hot water and sprinkle a liberal amount of Bar-Keepers Friend into the water. Let soak for about an hour....rinse well and follow up with more barkeepers friend for the really bad spots and then finish off with a little brasso....or a Blitz Cloth. A Blitz Cloth is a treated flannel cloth used by military officers to polish their "brass". Linda C...See MoreWhat do you guys think about this sideboard?
Comments (78)Sueb, it looks great! I love that it has some height to it for mixing drinks or serving platters. Initially I liked the first painting even though it was dark, bc I liked how it had green and the wall was green and then the bottom half of the wall was red with the cabinet and rug. But the second print looks so much better bc of how bright it makes it look. The first was definitely a dark hole. There is some extra room on the sides of the print but I kind of like it. Maybe see what kind of items will sit on the cabinet before adding more art. In case you have a tall something. You did great!...See MoreAntique Sideboard- hide damage or repair?
Comments (17)Oh good lord please do not paint it!! That's a gorgeous piece and painting it would utterly ruin it. This whole "paint your furniture for a fresh new look" trend needs to die already, or at least be limited to cheap crappy furniture. Repairing the damaged trim and replacing the missing spindles isn't anything a good carpenter couldn't handle. My parents had an antique bed frame modified so that it could be used with a standard mattress (it was too short and slightly too narrow). Their carpenter is some sort of magic man because you cannot tell this frame has been modified. Though I'd wait to repair until your dog can be trusted not to chew on the furniture anymore....See MoreHelp with an antique sideboard
Comments (11)DO NOT paint it! Believe it or not interest in this 1920s style is resurging. I belong to several groups with thousands of members who are interested in dining and china and all that goes with it. I would begin asking $300 and be prepared to take less, but I'll bet youw illg et $200 for it. Is ther by chance a makers mark inside a drawer somewhree?...See MoreSina Sadeddin Architectural Design
