What kind ogf bathtub fixture can I put on tub with a hand held shower

What kind of tub fixtures with a hand shower can be installed into the wall? That's where my fixtures are now, into the tile wall . Houzz shows some fixtures but they don't seem to be the kind that are installed into the wall.

Do you have grand-kids, or are you expecting any near your guest bedrooms? If so, do consider having tubs (at least a small 5 foot inexpensive one) for baths. You won't regret that, especially for resale. As for your Master Bath, ask a realtor friend and they will likely tell you it's 'best' for re-sale for a 5-piece Master too, but if you'd much rather have the extra-large shower than a smaller shower and tub, then go for the larger shower and forget the tub. We have an oversized shower (dual heads, etc) and absolutely love it. We have a big jacuzzi tub too and it's nice but doesn't get a whole lot of use. Our overall bathroom is quite large, but if I were limited on space, the tub would be the first to go or at least downsize. As you age, you will probably find a better use for a walk-in shower with things you can add in your later remodel (hand-held rails, bench, etc) than a tub that is hard to step into.

Thanks all for the comments and suggestions. While bonnieg011 's arrangement would technically work for me, it would be more effort to install. I'd have to drill through another corner of the support structure, and get four long hoses to connect the faucet to the levers 5 feet away. Plus, while it does sound nice to be able to top up the hot water without getting it in the face, or having to re-arrange yourself to reach the controls, it also seems like it'd be a pain to fill the tub in the first place, since you'd have to adjust the knobs, then run over to the other end of the tub, check the temp, then run back. I know it wouldn't be that bad, but I also just prefer the look of all the chrome things clustered together. -Joel

agree with ravencajun that there are some really nice handhelds out there that rival or even beat a basic fixed head, plus their utility for cleaning is critical to me. Another option is to place the handheld on a slide bar so you can adjust to different heights. This is especially nice for kids or folks with very different heights. Unless you have a wide tub, I would be inclined to go with a really nice handheld on a bar and the tub spout, otherwise as linelle pointed out it will get busy with so many fixtures. Plus you will need additional diverter valves and trim for extra fixtures and you may decide that money might be better spent on upgrading the shower head (or some other part of your redo) We went all out in ours, but it is a good sized shower only - but you can see what it looks like in the picture below with two fixtures on one wall. #1 - GFI protection is OPTIONAL for this light. It is NOT mandatory NO required. I never GFI protect shower cans. There is no reason for it. #2 - TRIM that is rated for use over a shower. The can is the same either way. #3 - If the ceiling is up, as yours obviously is, you would use an "old work" can that just cuts into the sheetrock and is held up by clips. Using a new work can with the bars is useless and WAY more work than you want to know.

I'm pretty sure you can get a hand shower installed where your shower head is now.

That is not a shower head . It's the controls for the hot and cold water

Sorry I assumed there was one further up. You can probably get one installed but will have to redo tile work.

Juanita, yes that is a hand held shower head along with the water controls. You sit in the tub and take a shower otherwise the water goes all over the bathroom. Here are more styles.

I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish. Are you trying to use an existing tub/shower wall combination for a new free standing tub?

Not going to work. Most freestanding tubs are deeper than built in tubs so the spout is too low to reuse.. Additionally if you purchase new faucets, you have to change the valves in the wall so there is no avoiding having to demo the tile and the wall.

Thanks for all the info. I wanted to wash my hair after taking a bath, but I guess the new faucets would cost too much if I have to rework the tile. Thanks again.

I thought you wanted to add one in addition too what you have. There are lots of hand held you can get that are fitted to existing fixtures that work great. My parents have had the same one for years. Check home depot or bed, bath and beyond.
