A Chainsaw Challenge off another board I have not seen.
Comments (9)Although I haven't had need for a chainsaw in several years (my son currently has mine), there are several things that come to mind here and I'll mention them just to stir the pot a bit. 1. Is the bar and/or front sprocket worn enough that the chain does not run straight and true? 2. Is the drive sprocket worn or does it wobble on the driving shaft? 3. As I recall, I never experienced "black" teeth on the chain cutters unless they were so dull as to generate heat buildup. Maybe slightly brown in a few cases where I was cutting heavy resinous wood and dirt/dust started to adhere to the cutters but even then, the cutters are essentially self cleaning just by their very form and if the bar is oiling correctly, the actual cutter material stays relatively shiny and clean. 4. You didn't by chance try to cut some old bois-d-arc wood (hard as rocks) or perhaps hit an old nail that was encased in the wood did you? 5. Could there be an obstruction of some type (possibly a piece of trash or chunk of wood) caught inside the drive housing that may be rubbing against the chain at high speed? As noted above, just throwing out things I would check if the saw were mine. Steve...See MoreHelp Please with Challenging Kitchen Layout
Comments (21)palimpsest, I didn't mean to offend you if I did. Everybody's experience is different. I come from a large family. My step mother has exactly that setup with the island, the size, the seating, the relationship to the range. Every time she entertains for any number - every single seat is filled and the person in the center behind the sink has to stay pulled back. There are people and dogs running up and down every aisle and clogging everything. And I'm talking about the adults! The bar flys wish the island was deeper. In her setup, the appetizers end up on the island while the rest is cooking and the bar flys would like to be able to reach all of them without moving. As kids grow, they get playmates and perhaps siblings. They all hang around the kitchen - get drinks and snacks, make their own sandwiches and become independent chefs. I regularly splash all over the my 15" tall backsplash. If I had that type of island - a permanent pond would develop back there complete with tadpoles... And I right now have a sleeve damp to the elbow and damp places across the tummy zone - prep for split pea and ham soup. This doesn't mean I think everyone splashes water everywhere (altho dh is actually worse than I). It's a simple statement for the op to hear or ignore. It's the same thing with prep time. If I entertain, nobody sees me do more than a last minute thing - like whipping cream. (might mean I'z control freak) But others in the same family do most things after the crowd arrives and usually with one or two others helping. The thing I like about this kitchen is that all that is possible. I never know if its possible to for anyone satisfy all the needs of whoever is posting until stuff is suggested and the poster accepts it....See MoreAnother Dress Challenge - MOB and MOG
Comments (115)OK.. so we gathered this morning with champagne, wine and spanx-- and tried on a total of 14 dresses all lovingly hand-picked for her. It started out with a bang with the number one pick being the first she tried on. That always makes it easier when the first one fits, right? There were only a few complete misses.. and quite a few wins. Whew! I admit that I had fears of nothing working. The super surprise is the number one pick broke all the rules. It was much shorter than she wanted (in the photo), a shape she was certain she couldn't wear (sheath) and it is a blush pink.. but it was perfect. She was smitten as soon as she saw it... Best of all, it fit her perfectly. No need for adjustments. Next favorite was this one though I need to order a size larger (or she needs to have a rib removed). It is proving tricky to find the right size.. but this also looked absolutely beautiful on her-- better and dressier than in the photo. This also fit her beautifully but the lace on the arms was scratchy. I think we are all in agreement that THIS is the color she needs for the fall wedding. We just need to find it in another dress. And while this one looked stunning (and very slimming) on her-- it's been 100% nixed because it looks like something my mother wore to one of my sister's weddings. It's a shame because it was very comfortable and really looked great on her.. but we also agreed that it's too much bling for a MOG. The hunt is now focused on that dark fuschia color. It really brought her face alive and looks stunning with the wedding colors. There are two other dresses that look great and would be perfectly fine-- but they are a tad "expected" for MOG. We're keeping one of those as a fallback. Thank you all for all of your time and your many suggestions! Oly, I know I balked at the florals but we all agree that it's perfect for the spring wedding....See MoreAnother fashion challenge...
Comments (86)Update: The event was yesterday and it was a wonderful success! It was sunny and 90 degrees but we were only outside for a brief time - maybe 10 minutes. I fully intended to wear the white suit that smh found but I had a wardrobe malfunction at the last minute. The belt broke! I had already ordered the navy blue dress and would have returned it but the return shipping to the UK was high so I ended up keeping it. I wore that dress and it was really flattering and quite nice. I wore simple gold ball earrings and a gold chain link bracelet and it was professional and comfortable. BTW, I was very impressed with the quality of the Winser London dress - if you find something you like and there is a free shipping promotion, I highly recommend. Thank you to everyone who helped with ideas and suggestions. I still love the white suit but need to figure out how to fix the belt :(. I can also say that the Oribe hairspray was fabulous! Thanks mimi! Simple Dress...See MoreAnglophilia
