Comments (13)My, I have my work cut out just looking at these wonderful sites! Ianna, that is quite the house, not a straight line in sight! Love it! Thank you Nell and Thank You Jen for that addy. That is *some* site! Janelle, thank you sooo much for that link, great inspiration. If only I could go back 30 years I might be tempted... ;-) That plant sale is amazing and her prices were so low! Interesting also that the size of her greenhouse is 10' x 16' which is the max we can go w/out a permit. Probably the same regs there. After seeing it I think we'll build that size as well instead of the smaller one we had planned. Not much more money or work and better to do it right. I also borrowed a stack of books from the library so have a lot of info to go thru. DH says he can build it in a week but we have to wait for all this snow to leave so I have a month or more to plan it. Will update "when"! :-) So grateful to everyone for all the help and if there are any other ideas please post....See MoreHelp me re-design my unused formal dining room!! Open to advice please
Comments (10)Is another living room the greatest need you have in your house? Will it be for the kids to hang out in? Or a quieter adult retreat? We turned our dining room into a home office with matching desks facing each other placed in the middle of the room, so together they are about the same size as a dining table. It looks like it might be large enough to fit a modestly sized sofa in there, with a small round table with 2-4 chairs that you could use as a gaming table. Any musicians? What about a music room?...See MoreLiving room re-design HELP
Comments (16)The picture of the room with the fireplace and painting over it above seems like a perfect room to me. You need art, some color, spatial harmony, beauty, light, symmetry, and this room has it. It bothers me that what you often you see instead are giant clocks, a gray and brown/beige interior, no genuine art and a TV above the fireplace. Rooms should fill you with happiness in addition to being functional. milas's room is very attractive, and I love the couch, but I hope there will be some colorful art on those tall walls, a colorful and larger carpet underfoot, and some hint of the owner's personality and loves. The picture of the larger space shows lots of windows with just blinds which would look so much more warm and welcoming with curtains. That would probably be a good place to start in addressing the decoration of the remainder of the rooms. A "farmhouse" look has never been colorless, quite the contrary. I think some very good suggestions have already been given, and having more seating seems like a very important part of the plan....See MoreHelp me brainstorm! Beginning stages of a new build
Comments (31)Given that you're looking 2 years out for your build, you can afford to slow down a bit in time. Yes- I'm like many others who suggest that you get custom plans drawn up. This is to be your forever home, so best to make certain that your needs/wants and some desires are 100% represented, within the plot plan. Also, to the 2 years out- technology changes very rapidly. What seems like the best way to go today (so many things) may not be what you actually do, in 2 years. So keep up on all that. A very small thing that has made a BIG difference in my latest custom build. For certain things, I ordered extra parts as I brought it all in. Mostly, that was the kitchen. Little things like extra vent filters for my vent hood. The exact bulbs, for that model. Truly- extra burners/burner tops for my Wolf 6 burner dual flame. My thought was that "things happen", and the worst thing to do is wait for it, then run around on the Internet, searching for the right part. So we have them, at contractor's prices. I did the same thing with some fairly modern low-flow toilet seats, and a couple other things. It was cheap, considering after market. If I ever want to refresh OR sell, I can make my kitchen appear brand new- like nobody ever cooked there. LOL- I cook a lot....See MoreRina
