I think you'd have to choose your practitioner carefully. Maybe if you like your friend's eyebrows you could see whoever did hers.

I have a friend who has had hers done and TBH, while I'd never tell her, I don't think they look good on her at all.

Eeeek, I've never done it but the videos are enough to scare me off, lol. Be sure to research any possible side effects that may occur to someone with your disease.

I'll be curious to see if anyone has had this procedure and what the experience has been.

I personally don't like the look of them. All of our news reporters have them, and they're too dark. I don't like the squared edge either. They last a couple of years, apparently, so in a year, when there's a new trend these will stand out, IMHO.

My friend has had hers done....she loves then, but I don’t care for them...just too much brow.

One question I have is can you still get MRI's and CAT scans after having it done?

Will definitely have to ask friend about it. They had someone doing it on a person on Kelly and Ryan this morning, but didn't see the whole episode.

Really getting tired of these eyebrows. I have Essential Tremors, so an eye brow pencil is definitely out. I do use an eye brow powder, but my hands have a mind of their own!!!

I had to google this as I never heard of it. It looks like women who already have decent eyebrows want them thicker, which I am not a fan of.

But, as Kathy mentions, she has only partial eyebrows. I can see how this could improve her overall look by completing the brows.

Also, since they are not permanent, it is a good way to try something.

1. I had my eyebrows tatooed because they were very sparse. I love them, no more messing with them every morning. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I had to look it up to learn that if I never heard of it, I must be living under a rock. I did look at images and some look really good and very natural. Don't care for the boxy ones though.

LOL at Anglophilia! I've never had much brow, but still plucked when I was a young woman. Never used a pencil or such on them Now, at 62, the inner half of them is dark and the outer half are white and I find myself filling them in a bit with either a gel and brush or what amounts to mascara for brows. I don't know anyone who's had it done, but the pictures online scare me! Not the pain, I could endure that if the results were to my liking. But they just look awful to me. Not natural at all.

My top lip is not exactly symmetrical. I would love to have had permanent lipstick or liner or even eyeliner, but I couldn't justify the cost for something so vain.

Oh Kathyg, I know exactly what you mean about your ET...my eyebrows are nonexistent anymore from Hashimoto’s...and this shaky hand never is able to get both of them looking alike! I have considered getting them tattooed but need to see someone who has had good results doing so...I’m afraid I might have one up higher than the other.

I do not think I would be comfortable having someone using a needle that close to my eye to tattoo an eyeliner...but would be nice not to have to mess with trying to put on eye makeup.

Phoggie, When I talk to my friend, one of these days, I will share the info here. I like the look of her eyebrows. Hers might be tattooed, not sure.

I have had both CT and MRI after my eyebrows were tattooed. I was asked before the procedure if I had any tattoos but it didn't stop the procedures.

Kris_zone6, would you tell us more about your eyebrow tattoos? Are you happy that you did them? Did an “ordinary” tattoo artist do them or is there some special type that I should seek? Painful? Expensive? Thanks!

Kathyg, I am wondering, since both of us have ET and HD, do you think there is any connection between these diseases? They are maddening, to say the least!..and there doesn’t seem to have any solutions to either.

The person who did my eyebrows only does facial enhancements, eye liner, fuller lips, etc. I saw some of her work on a friend before I decided to do it. It was relatively painless, she uses a numbing cream. I would do it again. It cost $300.00 for 2 sessions, the first one she did all the tattooing and the second one 3 weeks later for a little touch up. I am so happy I did it.

Like anything else, you have to research the technician and salon. Here's a gruesome outcome of someone in Detroit, who got infection afterwards.

Phoggie, I don't think there is a connection between Hashimoto's and ET. My DD has had Hashimoto's since she was 10 years old, so for 36 years.

Found out my friends eye brows are tattooed.

Also, my one DDIL has her eye brows micro bladed. She is from Indonesia and said it is quite popular there.

After reading about that infection, I'm a little more reluctrant to try it.

I recently saw a friend that had her eyebrows done and her lips lightly tattooed pink....didn’t look good.

I asked the technician when I had my MRI about the question of tattoos. It's only new tattoos they're worried about. Apparently new/fresh ink can cause havoc.

Weird that just the other day our local news had a segment about a young woman who had a severe reaction around her eyes after microblading. She noticed swelling and redness around her eyes but waited until her eyes were really pretty bad (nearly swollen shut & infected around the brows) before seeking real medical help in the ER. By then she had sepsis and the photos were really a nightmare. She is finally better, but it took weeks to get there. If you go through with this, please be aware of side effects and seek medical attention immediately if you have a reaction.

A couple of girls at work had eyeliner tattooed on and it looked great. Another Army officer we knew had her eyebrows & eyeliner tattooed on and you could not tell unless you were really close to her. She said she had it done before she went to Afghanistan years ago to avoid makeup.

I am very pale (wear the lightest shade of any foundation-type product though some manufacturers aren't light enough), and naturally blonde - even after my brows more or less recovered from the 90’s era plucking everyone did to have horribly thin brows (like Pam Anderson, as an example) they’ve always been very light in color. Microblading at the salon I went to in SoCal was prohibitively expensive at more than &500 and I wasn’t willing to spend that for results I don’t know will be what I am aiming for. So instead of that, I tint my own brows around once a month with a dye from a professional line brand I get in two colors at the beauty supply which I mix to get the right shade - not too gold and neither too dark or too light. I’ve been filling in my brows with cosmetics for so long that it’s really easy to do the tint in the right brow shape, though tint ‘expands’ as the developer and dye processes so it requires a light hand to apply. There are also ‘templates’ that are sold for people who feel they need that little extra help getting the right brow shape; Anastasia Beverly Hills is a good brand, but there are budget brand ones out there on places like amazon.

Selecting the right color is a bit more complicated. A blonde like I am (level 8 with level 10 highlights mixed into the length) doesn’t want to go too light, depending on skin tone - I do around a level 6/7 light brown, but a platinum blonde like Gwen Stefani will look better with darker brows than they will with lady Gaga bleached brows.

Dont obsess on brows not being a perfect pair - they’re like sisters, not identical twins. Nobody, NOBODY has 100% symmetrical brows.

I don’t worry about symmetry, just about having half of each brow missing. Although that is symmetrical!

The thing about using dye to tint at home is that all the tiny ‘fuzz’ hairs we normally need a spotlight and closeup mirror to see will be tinted (and the skin underneath as well but that comes off in a few days at most) so it creates the appearance of having more eyebrow than one does without the products/cosmetics. The 90’s/early 00’s brows took a long time to grow back normal-for-me brows. I was lucky that they grew back at all, I know someone who made the brilliant decision to shave hers entirely off. To redraw them on so they looked like she did it with a sharpie permanent marker/chola style*.

*apologies for the slang terminology and hopefully no one is offended by it.

I saw that Kelly and Ryan segment. I really did not like the results. Her brows were too dark and too close in the center. I’d be upset to have to live with that. The outer half of one of my brows is disappearing. If I could find the right person who would guarantee that I wouldn’t end up with two dark caterpillars over my eyes, I’d do it.

I like the “caterpillar” comment. Never thought of heavy brows using that description! Funny!

I think that brow shapes are rotated through a popularity cycle, so as they get closer together in the middle they will eventually make it to a unibrow a-la Frida K. and then start all over at the ‘shave them all off/pluck them to near nonexistent’ point...;)

I ran into an old friend this weekend and she obviously got hers microbladed. They're heavier than her own, but more importantly the tattooist didn't do a good job, placement-wise. As any tattoo, the job is only as good as the artist.

They sit too high. I could see where her own brows are and these are done too high and wide. She looks like she's constantly startled. Not a good look

After careful consideration I have decided to not pursue having my brows micro bladed. My hair stylist said that they would use dyes and that with all my allergies I might be asking for trouble! I do dye my hair, but don’t think I should go close to my eyes. Guess I’ll just buy myself a lifetime supply of brow powder! Thanks everyone. I truly like being able to “throw” some thoughts out there and get all these ideas back at me. Sure gets me thinking outside the box.

I have way too many eyebrows, so I wax every two weeks. I have never heard of microblading. Googled it and actually I like the looks of them. Word of advice though, thoroughly research the practitioner you are choosing to have them done for you. Best wishes. I hope you love and enjoy your brows!

Jenn mentioned Anastasia Beverly Hills . . . My granddaughter gave me their Dipbrow Pomade, and I love it. You apply it with a slanted brush, which might (I hope) be easier for you than a pencil.

As for how to spell reluctant, if you right-click on a misspelled word you'll be given the correct spelling (most of the time). :-)

After watching a video on it, nope. I'm glad you chose not to do it. It hurt watching it, and I swear her eyebrows didn't match. She loved the result?!

Can you imagine, if you, me, or any one of us was the first person the tattooist has done?? She has to start somewhere but I don't want to be her guinea-pig!

ABH dipbrow pomade stays on even through a sweaty workout at the gym - for the ladies who want to still look like they have eyebrows when they leave as they did going in. ;)

seems like you've made a decision based on your needs. I would consider microblading only because it lasts only up to 3 years
