I have read this three times and don't know what you're asking. You've only shown us two walls. Is the nook the area on the left that you haven't photographed?

On the window wall, I wouldn't tile to the ceiling with charcoal gray subways. I would bring the tile up the side of the window another two rows. I'd paint above it in a light gray if you aren't introducing a different complementary color. You can also hang a Roman shade close to ceiling height to make the window appear taller.

First photo shows two walls at a corner, a front-facing window on a wall not yet tiled (and yes, that will have tile only going up to the level of the cabinets on either side) plus the main sink wall.

The second photo just shows long sink wall, the "nook" is off the right, hidden from view in this photo

The third wall is the fridge wall, with the nook to the right of it. There is no fridge yet, but you can see its cabinet.

In the third photo, you are looking at the fridge cabinet, with a pantry to the left, and a "nook" to the right. That "nook" has a shelf in the middle. The question is, how much of that nook to tile. There are two walls of the nook (back wall with the shelf bisecting it) and the side wall, which goes up the ceiling. How much of the side wall of the nook to tile. that is the question.

This is another view of the front window wall (you could just see a corner in the first photo above. This wall will only be tiled up to the cabinets on either side.

Only tile the back of the nook. The only time you tile a side wall is when there's a sink or stove close by that needs protection.

on your main window,,,you're tiling up to ceiling, yes? I hope? if not, you should. I would actually tile over the door as well. might as well do the entire wall.

repeat the paint color above the nook window,,,or go ahead and tile all of that too.

I'd also do a nice roman blind or something similar for that nook window. if you don't need anything over the sink window, I'd leave it bare

I still wouldn't tile above that one window. Doing one without the other doesn't make sense, and that tile seems a bit dark to enclose a window. I would tile both in a white or light subway or a mosaic though. What are your plans for the larger window? I assume you'll want to remove the blinds. Could you use a more substantial molding to spiff it up?

as for the nook area, I happen to like tile and would prob do the entire wall around the window,,,I'd do nice window trim and the sconce for some visual interest. You have a light countertop, and two windows, I wouldn't worry about making things dark. it will be fine.

I think Beth just illustrated my point. White and marble subways everywhere look nice. Charcoal gray in a small enclosed kitchen could be cave-like. I guess some might find it cozy.

mayflowers, i think you and Beth H. are saying opposite things, not the same. She is saying she WOULD tile everywhere, you are saying not to. She is also saying TO tile above the sink window, you are saying not to... unless I'm completely misunderstanding one of you... In any case, the tiles look dark partly because 2/3 of the lights aren't working yet and this was taken at night -- tho yes they ARE darker than white/marble subway, which isn't an option at this point. nor was it a color I was interested in. Game plan is YES to go above the sink window, and NO not above either the front window or the backdoor. Only question is on how much of the nook to do... Thanks for all the input

got it. so for the nook, and wall, do all, or do half. up to you. as I've said, really no wrong way. tile the bottom portion first and bring it around to the wall. see how it looks. you can always tile on top of it if you think you should go up.

Yes going in pieces is exactly what I was planning, but I love getting outside input 8-). yes cabs are white, countertop is quartz in a faux calacatta "marble" look. Fingers crossed they look good together!

I know what she said but her photos illustrate that that advice is dependent on the tile itself.

While I was posting that the tile is dark for that use but white or light subways would look good, she posted all photos of white and marble tiles as examples of using tile everywhere, so it does illustrate my point. I wasn't suggesting you change your tile to white or marble.

mayflowers ok i see what you are saying. But I suspect that's more coincidence than intent given the comments. When I search on pinterest for "tile above sink window", I get pictures in both light and dark tile, so I don't think it only applies to light tile.

No, Beth, what I said was that I wouldn't tile above just one window when there's two windows in close proximity. I would treat them equally. In that scenario the charcoal tile would be everywhere and it could make it appear cave-like. That means charcoal tile on the stove wall, the entire wall around the main window, the smaller window, around the door, the nook, and the side wall up to the ceiling. Since snarky is not tiling the main window, I don't see the need of tiling around the small window. It would look better to continue the paint color that's around the main window around the small window. That's IMO!! You have yours, which I am not rudely criticizing.

If you're going to tile the side wall near the nook, snarky, take it to the ceiling. Don't just float it on to the side wall at shelf level.
