How many vanity lights are good for one vanity top and mirror in
Comments (7)Make a scale drawing of your wall set up on graph paper. That way you get to see if the lights overpower the size of the mirror or not. Select something you like to look at. More light is better, IMHO. It is always possible to downsize the wattage and bulb types, but you cannot upsize in any given fixture. In my pre-remodeled bathroom I had 12 globe lights over a 7' vanity. In my post-remodeled bathroom I have 5 on top and sconces on either side, plus recessed ceiling lights. Choosing the type of light bulbs is a whole nother deal. Good luck. What you don't want is shadows, whether you are shaving or applying makeup. -Babka...See MoreTwo niches vs. One niche
Comments (16)Personally, since people always leave stuff in the niche(s), I think it is better planning and more attractive if niches are out of normal line of sight... Sometimes that is not possible because of constraints you can't control--like where the plumbing needs to run. And higher than the shower spray line if possible--to catch smallest amount of water. Just remember to actually PLAN where you are putting the niche(s) especially if they will have some type of design element running inside or near them. Have seen too many examples of bad design that lives forever and reminds you any time you use/see that shower of a mistake. MOST of the ones in this thread seem to be well done--but misaligned tiles and grout lines are ALWAYS eye-catching and getting them installed correctly can be more difficult than almost any other aspect of building a quaity shower. Pre-planning can save tons of regret. AND all horizontal surfaces in niche should be sloped for runoff---any shelf as well as bottom of niche......See MoreI wish to install two vanity lights on each side of my vanity mirror.
Comments (1)Hi Elaine, 120 watts of incandescent light should be more than adequate at the mirror. Yes, you should consider LED bulbs. To my eyes the best currently available are coming from Philips & CREE. Be sure to choose a dimmable bulb so you can vary the light level....See MoreI'm looking for two lights, one on each side of the ba/rm vanity(-ies)
Comments (3)I'm just trying to have some fun and to get some ideas, Patricia. We've chosen a very rustic 72" vanity. I mentioned in my post that I'm looking for side lights. My husband will be the contractor. We are buying pieces as we go, because many home items could be discontinued. We have room to store them. Pardon me if I don't approach it as you wish. I guess you can't help at this point, but no worries......See Moreingrid_vc so. CA zone 9
