Is 12' considered too narrow for a master bedroom?
Comments (14)Millwork, I am doing it all. I did not design the room to be 12' for carpet, but I was wondering what people had to say about the idea. I think I set it to be 13'6" wide and a bit longer than that. I have the entry, closet, and bath all on one side of the room so furniture layout will have two primary arrangements without interrupting that traffic. I am planning this to be a forever home, but with the option of selling to prospective buyers if I ever want to. I think the location and large lot will do most of the talking for people since the house itself is only a 30x44 footprint (considered modest with new housing around here). Personally, I think the bedroom is for resting, getting over illness, and having the ability to watch movies when sick or looking for privacy. I don't plan on having the entire family lounge in the MBR as some seem to depict that idea through design. I get maybe having a chair for changing shoes, or talking to some one...but chairs, a couch, a coffee table, book case, and tv all in the MBR seems like a complete waste of space and funds that I do not have. I will probably stick to my square-ish design with at least 13' x 14' - which is plenty for a queen or king....See MoreAlternative to end of bed bench
Comments (0)Hello, i love the look of a having a bench at the end of my bed, however my bedroom is too narrow to have one at the foot of my bed. Also, the room is small. I believe it’s aboit 320 sq ft. I could turn my bed the other way, but I don’t Want to block the French doors. I have considered getting a bench and putting it next to the bed. I’m single so I woildnt have to worry about it blocking me from getting in and out of bed. Finally, excise the mess. Doing some remodeling. Thanks! white dresser will be gone soon....See MoreSpanish colonial - help me update my (too dark) bedroom
Comments (5)deegw -- I kept looking at that picture of my room from your reply, and coudn't figure out where or when I moved that rug (my photos are from different years and there's been a variety of rugs in there. ) Then I realized you photoshopped it in -- cool trick. You make a good point, about adding color back in, too. But do you think that just painting the back wall white will be enough to lighten the room? I feel I still have to deal with the dark cabinets in the dark side of the room. loobab - thanks for the tips about size of painting related to to wall. Yes, it's my utilitarian makeup table and it's grown unwieldy over time. In reality, I hate clutter. I need a vanity with storage and much better lighting, and a curvy mirror sounds perfect. The space there is narrow. Probably one of those little backless chairs that can slide completely below the table when not in use....See MoreIs my master bedroom too dark?
Comments (16)I like it, however I think the loveseat at the foot of the bed doesn't work. it's a warm gray,,number 1, and 2, it's too large. this type of sofa works w/the bed. here's a dark gray wall room w/plenty of texture and prints, or what about one like this? notice the nightstands, pillows, bench and rug Your small light over the bed? seems too small. do you have any art? to go below it? everything in that room is solid. you need some print and some other color bigger night stands in a wood like your floor, or a white or a gray would be fine. like this. same color gray, but w/texture/pattern, warm wood, it comes to life I'd try a nice light, maybe some like these drapes over the smaller windows proper size for a bench. but notice the textures and prints in an otherwise very neutral room lastly, pillows, throws, linen, lighting, some mirrors, art, all in the same shade of grays....See Morerockybird
