Comments (36)Just my 2cents. I love your color swatches. Very coordinated and very pretty. I agree with the others that I wouldn't paint those cabinets. I love white cabinets and dream of having them one day, so I understand where you're coming from. But the thing is, your cabinets are so pretty that it'd be a shame to hide them. Cabinets are usually bought white, or are painted to cover subpar or ugly cabinets. The color of your cabs goes perfectly with the sample of granite in your pic. Also, painting cabinets is a big job. You have to paint the insides, as well (as opposed to refinishing the doors). I think the mahogany floors would look great even with you keeping your existing dark cabinets. The granite counter (the sample in your pic) breaks up the two large areas of red colored wood. The grays you picked for the walls coordinate great. However - and this is just a personal preference - I'm not fond of gray in kitchens, except for metal. Gray is a cool color. The color of metal. And your appliances are already gray, as will be your countertop. The gray walls won't add anything, and to me, gray is not a good color for kitchens. I also don't like the idea of a gray floor for the same reasons (unless it would be real gray slate or something along those lines). If you stick with gray walls, then I'd go very light gray or a grayish white, to brighten up the area. Benjamin Moore White Dove is a grayish white, I believe. SW and Behr also have grayish whites. Love the new lighting!...See MoreWhat color paint for red Kitchen Wall
Comments (2)pewter gray cabs and white counters, but what is the plan-paint till you can remodel? Or do you have great cabs that will last another 15 yrs? Provide info ... You can always do white anywhere/everywhere with red. Are you replacing anything? Sink? Faucet? Can you get new laminate counters?...See MoreWhat would you do with this kitchen? 1990s Golden Oak
Comments (45)I've been lurking these forums for some time. The kitchen by julieboulangerie is almost identical to my own. My layout is adequate for my smaller space and the cabinets function fine. I hate my countertop, sink and stove so plan on an upgrade there. I have a hard time ripping out perfectly good cabinets simply because I don't like the style, even though they are 15 years old. I had decided on granite (a black pearl) until I read these last few posts about laminate. Now I wonder if I should just settle for a nice laminate, new stainless sink (apron?) and range since the cabinets are dated?? Or should I choose granite now and paint the cabinets if we want a new look later? Can a wood/butcher block counter (would have to paint cabinets now) be re-used on new cabinets later? My quandary is about "settling", resale value (no immediate plans to sell), and knowing a total redo is long in coming, especially if we partially upgrade now. We have a lot of home improvement dreams so would like to stretch every dollar! I hope this is not simply repeating others' questions, but I guess I'm just looking for some clarity of thought from those with a lot of experience. I've never done this before and feel it's an enormous decision!...See MoreTotal Kitchen Remodel
Comments (18)kitchenaddict--thanks so much for attaching the photos. It does look very similar. I wish the countertop was a laminent so that I could copy off it. I think it looks really nice and have trouble visualizing it all put together. The taupe does look pretty also. I wonder if that is the better way to go instead of the "yellow" family. I am just afraid to pick something that is too blah and everything just looks dull together. biochem101-- thanks for the advice. I agree that is probably the best thing to do because even though sometimes things looks similar, once you put them side by side they can bring out the wrong colors in each other....See Morejhmarie
