KitchenAid Dual Fuel Burner Issues - KSDB900ESS

Hi folks,

We completely remodeled our kitchen a little over a year ago and decided to outfit the entire kitchen with KitchenAid appliances. From the start, we had issues with the burners on our dual fuel range KSDB900ESS which has been converted to LP. When using the convection bake feature the two right burners lose air when you open the oven door, go out completely and/or re-ignite and produce yellow flame &soot. The burners perform normally when the oven is not in use. We have now had over 14 service calls with Whirlpool Factory Service, they replaced just about every part on the range, then agreed to do a buy back from us due to this problem being a safety issue, and we received a replacement range about a week ago. The replacement range does the exact same thing as the first, but has a new model number KSDB900ESS2. Needless to say, we're extremely frustrated with Whirlpool and I've spent over 40 hours of my PTO trying to get the range fixed. I've attached a YouTube video that demonstrates the problem that I'm having. Has anyone else experienced this before? Any suggestions? We're at a loss for what to do next, other than continue to put up a fight with Whirlpool/KitchenAid.

Thank you for this... I am sorry you are going through this. It is dreadful. I just ordered an entire KA suite of appliances. I had Bosch in my last house and had some minor issues with the dual fuel gas range and thought (Foolishly) That KA would be a better product. Now I need to start my search over.

I am glad they came out to try to fix it for you and even bought it back but it didn't solve your dual fuel range problem. I appreciate that you shared your experience.

I have the GE Cafe Gas Range and have been only using it for about 2 weeks now. I really love it. I use Magic Stainless Steel Spray when I am done cooking and my top stays so nice. But then again, I have had the range for only a short time. I also love the recirculating fan hood Zephyr that I bought that really takes out the odors and so far it is nice for not be venting. I know a few others with GE ranges that owned them for many years and are happy so If felt comfortable getting a GE Range knowing each appliance had their bad and good points. But just in case there was a problem, I added the 5 year extended warranty so I would have my range fixed right away. My second choice was the NXR but it did not have self-cleaning and I decided that was a feature I did not want to be without even if I only use it a few times a year.

Buy the AG! Much simpler product that will be better long term. The benefits of dual fuel are pretty minimal unless you are a heavy baker. Plus the D3 line is a very new product and I would try to avoid being their test case for QC...

Hi AreBe, fellow Torontonian here! I have a dual fuel Kitchen Aid range – probably the predecessor to yours – it has four 15,000 BTU burners. Mine is almost 12 years old, so I don’t know if it will help you or not, but I have had zero problems with it. Oven temperature is true, although I don’t always get evenly baked cookies if I am doing more than 2 sheets at a time. Then again, I don’t make cookies often so maybe it’s me and not the oven. Coincidentally, my neighbour has exactly the same range as me and she has not had problems with hers either. I am looking to start my kitchen reno this fall and have been agonizing about whether to keep the Kitchen Aid or go with induction. It was an upgrade from what I had previously and has really served me well.
