Fridge - GE Monogram vs KitchenAid vs Subzero
Comments (38)Maggie, nine years ago I bought the totally untested Thermador Freedom Series Columns. I picked them over the SubZero because they were the first to lift the interior and get rid of the ventilation panel overhead -- something I really hated about the old built-ins, but it also meant the bottom drawer wasn't nearly on the ground and in the freezer the ice was at a convenient height (had two kids in marching band -- we went through at least 2-3 gallons of ice every day during marcing season. Nine trouble free years later, I have no hesitation recommending Thermador (which includes Bosch, Miele and Gaggenau). And I got one of the first ones -- before the bugs were worked out. SubZero is the other top name for full size built in refrigeration with KA being a not to distant 2nd (but chek the opening of the drawers - required a more than 90 deggree open door back then - don't know if it's better now). For undercounter, it's SubZero, Perlick and maybe Uline....See MoreGE profile dual fuel range vs kenmore
Comments (12)I have the GE slide in. It's designed to hang from the countertop with approximately 8 inch deep cutout. So, if the base cabinet is too tall then the slide in won't sit down properly and actually has to be supported by the base cabinet instead of the counter. My 36 inch wide base cabinet had three drawers so we cut off the top drawer. I measured and planned it myself but if we were doing it again I would have had the range set in place prior to cutting the base cabinet. In the end we shimmed the base up about 3/4 of in inch to get a tight fit under the range. We also allowed space for a plywood top for the base cabinet. It fits tight so that when opening full drawers there is no tendency for the cabinet to tilt. This was needed in our case since we have 4 inch spacers on both sides of the range cabinet fronted by turned legs. While working on this we were able to slide out the base cabinet, measure and make final modifications with the range hanging in place in the granite counter. We're done now and it looks and works perfectly! I have to say though my GC didn't have a clue how to pull this together and I had to take time off work to plan and supervise....See MoreGas vs Dual Fuel- Need advice on a suite of kitchen appliances!
Comments (18)Itucker80, Appliances are difficult. You spend a lot of money, use it frequently and have it for hopefully a long time. You can get paralyzed for fear of making the wrong decision. Some people do not notice much difference in gas and electric but you might notice a couple of things. Gas ovens have more ventilation because it needs to exhaust the products of combustion. This means more heat and moisture into you kitchen. I think this is why you see so few gas wall ovens. You probably want ventilation over that oven. Some bakers say that their cakes set a little quicker so don't rise as much. Most people report better browning when roasting meats and vegetables. If you bake bread, and steam it at the beginning, it is harder to keep the steam in the oven with gas. There are work arounds for that Another thing to notice is the broiler. Gas broilers are either the blue flame which is not that great because heat goes up, and not so much toward what you are cooking underneath it or infrared which is really hot but can be small. I will say for a dishwasher, I had a Bosch 800 series for 11 years and it has been a workhorse. It did develop an issue with the pump and I am not fixing it but replacing it with another Bosch. Good for you alex9179! I like to hear that someone is happy with their oven. Have you made use of all the different modes? Appliance Educators, You realize we try to do that free here. Comments (1)Some of this depends on how you use your burners, high heat vs simmer, -what kind of cookware you have-cast iron or steel vs copper, aluminum or other highly heat conductive metals -how big is your cookware? do you use wide frying pans? How do you use your oven? Broiler? What type of oven do you have now, gas or rlectric? Have you looked at the Bluestar ranges? Are you set on a range? Have you considered a rangetop and a wall oven or ovens? The 36” range takes linger to preheat....See Morechris11895
