New Construction Windows: Help Me Pick!
Comments (7)I somewhat think you need to narrow your search a bit as to what you want. SDLs are a pricey option and unless you really, really, want them...not worth the money in most cases. Contoured vs. flat grids are standard and in most cases do not cost a cent more than flat and at worst, are only a few bucks more. If you don't like the white interior, +1 to Eco's recommendation of looking at a laminate interior or other interior. If you really want the look of wood (the interior laminates on vinyl are going to look good but not quite wood) look at something like a Marvin Integrity with a wood interior or Inline Fiberglass with a real wood interior. What is the exterior cladding of the home going to be? There are some nice options with some of the manufacturers to have an integrated J-Channel or brickmold return for a seamless look. At the end of the day, they should be a one-time investment so spend the money wisely (i.e. get the performance and solid product for durability) and get the look that you will be happy with for the life of the windows....See Morenew constuction need to pick windows tomorrow--HELP!!
Comments (3)Wow, how exciting building a new home!!! Most window companies offer exterior grille color that match the exterior frame color. Interior grille can be a color of your choice matching the interior frame color. From our experience, popular grille options like permanent exterior grille and removable interior grille are not overly pricey. Cheapest is no exterior grille, only interior removable grille. Where it begins to get costly is when there are spacers between the interior and exterior grilles. The really expensive option is true divided lite using real grille to divide individual pieces of glass. If you want more choices, you can look into Milgard, Andersen, Marvin, Loewen, Kolbe and Kolbe, Pella and check their websites for dealers in your area. These websites can be out of date too so you may need to call their 800 numbers and ask about dealers. Many of these companies also offer special "Storm" ready product using stronger glass, stronger hardware and such. Most of these must meet Florida hurricane requirements. Good luck and enjoy your new home!!!...See MoreSoft-lite windows for new construction - help educate me please.
Comments (4)I did get confirmation that all models can be used in new construction with the proper nailing flange accessory like wow said. Any opinions on which model is the better value? I'm in SC and will have plantation shutters on the inside of almost all windows so the frames won't be very visible from the inside. I do want a good looking (as good as a vinyl window can be)exterior frame. These will be going on a traditional brick house - new construction. I'd greatly appreciate any advice....See MoreNew Construction Tampa, Fl impact window quotes... need help
Comments (14)I am pretty happy with the look and feel of the Aluminum Clad windows. The Integrity was bad for 2 major reasons. 1. They were unable to come close in many of the windows sizes (these windows are pretty tall, some are about 7'6") 2. The "tract" where the window moves up and down is tan or white only. I want a black on black window, the tan tract on the inside of the window is extremely unappealing. The Kolbe is able to do the black aluminum with the black painted wood interior. This house is a contemporary rancher and the exterior will be white board and batten hardiboard (cement block construction) with a dark grey metal roof. All the windows and doors must be impact for code in my area. The house will eventually see for about $800,000 (so I cannot spend a million dollars on windows) and the windows should be great quality, but not best quality. I also have 8 sets of french doors. Spending $100,000 on windows and doors does not make me feel great....See MoreRyan Brigman
