Corn gluten meal will work just fine when applied to turf. It does not matter what form it is in, the granulated forms are easy to spread with a slinger but there is no difference in effectivness. Timeing is the most important thing. Spring applications should be done early, about the time daffodils are blooming. It works best if it is well watered in, then the ground allowed to dry out. Following up with a fall application helps. Keep in mind this is a long ternm type of thing and is most effective after a few years.

Hi Steve, I did find this site through your post on the Cedar Hills forum (you may know me as grbpwr on that site). I did try the Scotts last year in Spring and Fall but it didn't seem to help. I also sprayed weed killer on all the weeds every week without any noticeable difference. I changed all my cleaning supplies to organic over the past year and love it, it is so much more effective than chemical cleaners (baking soda, vinegar and Dr. Bonner's are my life) so I thought I would do the same for my yard, especially since chemicals didn't seem to get the job done last year. I have TONS of weeds. The yard on one side of my driveway (luckily this is the smaller area of front yard) is nothing but weeds and bare spots and my backyard isn't much better. I was actually planning to get one of those claw things for my dandelion problem because digging them up by hand like I tried last year was a flop due to the super long roots. I will try that on my existing crabgrass. Skoob, I hadn't heard about using plastic to kill existing crabgrass, but I had heard that a VERY light dusting of baking soda on existing crabgrass would kill it in about 5 hours without damaging the soil or grass around it. However, this has only been tested in warmer climates (FL, TX, etc.) so I was hesitant to use it, I think I will try both methods and see which is more effective. At this point nothing short of setting the grass on fire and starting over will make most of my lawn look any worse (although I do have a really nice section directly in the front which I want to encourage to spread).

I did an elimination diet two years ago and am so happy with the results. Different foods cause different reactions for me - gluten causes hair loss and psoriasis, dairy makes me feel very irritable, too many nightshades cause intense joint pain and peas and soy just mess me up all around. It seems like a lot to have avoid but not taking medication anymore makes it so worth it plus I look at all the foods that I still do well with and it is plenty.

Thanks for the responses. loves - I don't remember the name offhand, but went on KA's site and found the nearest distributor. Gave them a call and they were happy to sell to the public. $19.50 for the 50 lb bag. I had first gone to a local bakery that was also happy to sell me a bag; they charged the same price. Really nice about it, they even carried it out to the car in the pouring rain. Only problem, when I got home I realized it was a different brand, bleached and bromated. Went on the internet and read bad things about bromated flour including that it's outlawed in many countries, so it's still sitting in the back of the car. Seems a shame to throw it out, but for 20 bucks I'm not going to worry about it all too much.
