Basement paint - no natural light? Color suggestions?
Comments (19)Lighting is everything in a basement. And white walls in any shade almost never work. Definite color...and it doesn't have to be dark...is almost always better. Yellow rarely adds sunlight...it actually looks best in sunlight...but if it is reflective and clear, and the light is very bright, it can work. Luminous pale blues can give the sense of sky, particularly if you also paint the ceiling...which you should do in any case to keep it from sitting down on top of you. Very clear light is key...some of the new florescent corkscrew bulbs give a wonderfully bright light, and without the heat that halogen generates. I would add big mirrors to crack the wall open visually wherever you would have a window, if you had them. You can even hang drapery to the sides to increase that illusion if you like. Lamps that are reflected in them them will throw the light around....See MoreBasement Remodel...Need Advice
Comments (7)Having just done our basement I have some recent experience. 1. I would not put down carpet if there have been water issues. Cheapest is to paint the concrete floor with a masonry paint and then use area rugs. It IS a basement. Otherwise I'd put in flooring that would not get destroyed by moisture. 2. Declutter! Get rid of all that stuff and it will look 100x better. 3. Paint, yes. We actually painted ours RH dusk which is a deeper blue that changes with the light and it looks gorgeous. We are also doing the ceiling black with tiles that look like tin, but the floor and rug is lighter. The ceiling and overhead lights are not in yet, but it looks like a really cool game room as opposed to a dingy basement now. Here is one pic of the wallcolor. I will also post a pic of the now furnished room. We just have to add the trim and ceiling....See MoreHELP! Renovating our daylight basement need paint suggestions!!!???
Comments (2)I like Sherman Williams Creamy, it’s the least yellow of the undertones. I’d patch test, depending on the color temperature of your lighting (likely around 2700K), they may end up looking more yellow....See MoreNeed help with basement colors
Comments (19)My personal experience with white walls would make me shy away from having them in your basement. Back in 1996 I bought a home in Southern California. and painted everything white. I had all white walls, white trim, white doors and very light floors. I had 10' wide windows on every outside wall and tons of natural daylight flooding the house with the bright sunny days. I loved it! I got tired of it after about 10 years and re-painted using taupe and blue green grays and deep reds. That also looked amazing. I sold that home and moved to Central Pennsylvania. I bought a home with a lot of windows, but the days are often cloudy/overcast and they are not all huge windows. This is a fixer and the front of the home has hideous metallic gold fleck wallpaper and the back end of the house was painted white. I have added ceiling lights and lamps, but the white just falls flat. The Taupe I used in SC is too dark here and the colors that I used in SC turn gray and muddy here. I am using the same color white for trim and ceiling, but I am repainting the white walls with a mid toned neutral and the bright white trim to give me the contrast that makes the rooms feel bright and clean. The neutral I have selected is C2 Filament....See Morebyronsmom
