Reasonable cost of shower/tub valve replacement?

I'm in the middle of a bath remodel and am needing to replace the shower/tub valve I have with a different one (Delta Faucet r10000 UNBX). I just removed an acrylic liner, so all the plumbing is fully exposed - no wall or tile to remove for access. I also have the valve and cartridge ready, so those parts are already paid for.

A plumber from a well-rated company in my city (San Antonio) came yesterday for the install and gave me an on-the-spot quote of $550. I couldn't believe it. Told him no thanks and showed him out. Next company I called quoted me $225 over the phone and said it could be done in about an hour or so.

Is there any reason in the world something like that would cost $550? Maybe I just look like a sucker?
