Aw Geez. Pip isn't a verb. I love you Ester-B and all the problems you have worked thru to beautify your little portion of heaven, so I am not criticizing you specifically. But, how about EMERGE. Pips used to only apply to lily-of-the-valley plants for me. I'll accept that elongated hosta eyes that make shoots are sometimes referred to as pips but.... Guess I am getting too old.

Most things are pipping here (I used the word pipping, heh heh) but not Gypsy Rose. The only one I grow from your list.

How about Dream Weaver? It's the only one of mine that is showing no signs of life.

Windy, thanks for your list. I didn't see any of mine listed on the Late Emerging list, but I did see 2 of mine on the Difficult to Grow list. Funny though, they grow for me. I really hope the failure to emerge yet (I have yet to make my daily inspection, maybe it will hold a pleasant surprise for me, which I'll post if it happens) doesn't mean they didn't make it through the winter. You may recall that High Society came up super late last year and only had an eye or two, ditto Little Treasure.

Babka, maybe I LIKE to be an innovator of language, LOL. If the verb fits, I'll use it. However, I will NOT "disrespect" you or anyone else. That far, I can't go.

No sign of my Golden Meadows or Rainforest Sunrise yet, and both looked great last year. I suspect they are still sleeping and will try not to root around in the soil with my fingertips to find them. Everyone else is at least visually accounted for. If only Mother nature would send some warmth to wake these last 2 sleepyheads, since they are 2 of my favorites :)

threedogsmom - I have 3 Rainforest Sunrise, and they are always very late to the party! In fact, I credit that with my discovery of this forum. I had planted them in 2012 and they seemed to do well that season. Spring of 2013 came and there was no sign of them for a long time, and I assumed they were goners. I started looking online for information about hostas (trying to figure out what I had done wrong and why they had "died") - and that's how I found the forum. The RS's eventually came up and they are still doing really well. Of course, that first purchase of hostas was from Lowe's, so I still look at them suspiciously every year - wondering about their health and hoping not to find anything.

Esther - LOL - "innovator of language"! And I meant to say in my post that your four named cultivars were not on the list, but of course I left that word - not - out. I have my language/typing challenges as well.

So - no one knows about Dream Weaver? I know some of you all out there grow it...

this spring .... its all about soil temps.. all thru the root zone .... not just the surface .... and when the soil is getting warm enough.. all night long ... to get these things going ...

it can vary wildly in every nook and cranny of your garden ...

so i wouldnt be tied to list much .. cuz its been a wild spring ... eh??

as to your use of language ... i am still amused by the title to your other post .... but being a gentleman ... i havent written anything ... if we were standing next to each other.. you could see the amusement on my face.. when i kidded you about it ... lol

I'm happy to see that "late emerging" list includes Tokudama Aureonebulosa. I got it late last year and haven't seen any sign of it yet.

And esther, I'm on the "daily inspection" patrol as well. I actually love going out each day to see what there is to see.

Little Treasure and Royal Tiara are up, haven't checked Gypsy Rose. Four o clock Shadow, Four o clock Somewhere and Javelin are some of my no shows, but I won't start worrying until the second week of May.

Ivory Queen has made her appearance at last! Yellow Polka Dot Bikini is most definitely up. Both First Mates still MIA, as is Maui Buttercups and High Society so far. Today it's raining cats & dogs, so I won't be doing any garden work. If Sunday is nice, I want to convert an old garden hose to a soaker hose. I am disgusted with the black regular soaker hose I installed the year before last, as it develops new leaks if you so much as look at it. The "landscape workers", by using a stinking leaf blower to remove leaves in my garden and thereby blowing away most of the mulch and completely exposing the formerly buried soaker hose, may have actually done me a favor in facilitating replacing the soaker hose.
