I think they will look really nice together. Peach Swirl is not dingy.

I have Boscobel in front of my Peach Swirl and then on one side of Peach Swirl is The Poet's Wife. On the other side is Princess Charlene de Monaco and then next to Boscobel, in front, is Moulineux..so I have yellows pinks, peaches..so far so good..not all have bloomed yet tho lol

Oh thanks sultry ! That sounds really pretty ! I am having a hard time placing bold colors . Mostly because I have a few really bright ones from the Spring Hill sales to incorporate and I think it's clogging my brain . I don't want to mess it up !

I know what you mean, LF. PS isn't dingy, but these things are always comparative. I consider JC a "clean" color, while those in Sultry's bed seem much warmer in tone.The other confounding factor is that things look different in pictures. Is there anyway to keep them in pots until you get a bloom from them? I also agree about the Spring Hill roses, but I think I'm figuring it out. I just have so many trees, etc. to take down beforeI can think about even digging beds and planting them out. Sutltry, your bed sounds totally dreamy! I only have Molineux of those you mention, but adore the beautiful yellow bud that opens to such unusual shade of yellow and apricot.

That's true, mine are all warm peachy pinks. Moulineux gets peachy tones. The Poet's Wife is a clear yellow, maybe less gold than Julia..not sure. Peach Swirl fades to more peachy pink as the flower ages. When the flower opens it stays nice bright yellow and pink for a few days. I really think it would look good with any yellow. I have Golden Celebration and Charlotte in the same bed too.

Sultry I have to look up your posts for pics as I'm planning a yellowy area when I finally clear out my lower level and build a little shed/greenhouse. I thought I was going to have those colours up front, but Cinco de Mayo changed my plans! That was for the best as I have a huge area to fill if I want to eventually. I do dream about the apricot bed with Austins and climbers and maybe a few pinks. It's such a pretty palette. I really like Charlotte and it's hardy!

Vapor are you use ing all the rose even if you aren't crazy about them ?

Heres my dilemma.. I have the room and can plant them of course .. but some I just would not have ordered myself and are more vibrant than I like . ( ch Ching , whatever the red one from last year was , cupids kisses and even all my loving ). They look nice and all .. but I'm more of a pastel Austin kinda gal . Unfortunately I can't even bring myself to plant cinco de mayo . Not my cup of tea at all .

Was thinking of selling them but i know they can do really well in the back corner to brighten up the space ... maybe they'll grow on me !

I put a bunch of bright pinks by my veggie garden. I also like the pastels best but then I like some hot pinks but they don't really go with the other stuff so I decided that I would have an eclectic veggie garden and added roses, salvias, bananas, papayas, canna, hibiscus, and other hot tropicals to my veggie garden. The bold colors kinda make veggies more interesting lol. Papaya flowers smell like fruit loops :)

Sometimes when I'm planning where to put things I draw out the area and pencil the plants in. Then I can visualize it and change it as needed. I usually change it a billion times lol.

Give them a try Lily :). Spread them out for little pops of color maybe. If you like Julia you might like ChaChing too. Cinco de Mayo can vary a lot in color, in full sun it will probably be more peachy than orange.

Well it dosnt hurt to try them ! Dingo I had no idea it was peachy .. I thought cinco was brick red with orange.. I should probably look up the rose ! lol I only went bu the sales photo .

Cinco de Mayo can have some Lavender in there too, I think. Dizzy Lizzy just posted a picture on the thread 'More Roses' in the Rose Gallery.

Lily, looking at Sultry's pictures in another thread I think it would look really good next to Julia Child. It seems like it's very changeable color and Julia seems to mellow out as she opens in pictures at least. I don't actually have her.

Lilyfinch, try planting your brightly colored roses to draw the eye to the far corners of your yard. Warm colors advance, cool colors retreat. You can soften the hot red, oranges and yellows with white or creamy companion plants. Blues and lavenders will complement the hot colors. Moses, correct me if I'm way off base here.

I bought Cinco de Mayo on a whim, and kicked myself all the way home. That first neon orange bud just about did me in. Was planning to dig the thing up and toss it. Then - it bloomed. I wasn't expecting a soft color from that florescent bud. Nothing neon about the bloom. The early stage is a mellow russet, not orange. Then, it changes to a smoky rose, then to a muted lavender. It is gorgeous planted with lavender or purple roses. I think it would look nice with Julia Child also, since they are mother and daughter, but may be a little too hot a combo for your taste. It blends nicely with pinks. The best thing about CdM is the blooming power. It completely covers itself with blooms and they are constant. It is a nicely shaped bush with no crazy gangly long arms. I liked mine so much, I bought another one. At least wait until you see the progression of color before you give up on it.

Lily did you (or anyone else) get Peach Swirl from Edmunds? Did anyone with a cold winter/lot of freeze thaw in 5-7a have a lot of die back with it? I saw they list it as 5, but the tag I saw on a post somewhere on here said zone 6. I try to get zone 5 roses when possible, unless I really really want it. I'm definitely 6b, but I'm learning that can be worse that just a cold winter, that at least stays cold.

Whoa flowers ... thank you for that link !! That is gorgeous! What the heck did I have in mind ? I thought it was like a brick orangey red . Ok .. maybe they can stay .. lol I did decide if I planted them they can go by my hot pink crepe myrtle . I worked on my fence row bed and there are just so many pastels I can't break it up .

Witchy mine came from a nursery and the tag is from certified roses . Sorry I can't help you yet .

Lilyfinch, Cinco de Mayo will be perfect next to your crepe myrtle. It will bring out the pink tones. The blooms are saturated deep russet when they open, but quickly change to the softer, muted shades. Soil and climate probably play a part in the color, too. I'm like you and don't go for strong hot colors.

I'm waiting until my CdM blooms to see if she would look nice in a be with Violet's Pride and some Purple Coneflower to tie it in. I'm lucky in that all my areas are quit separate from one another so I can (hopefully) keep them from clashing too badly. I love the pastel pinks, but have found since most of my beds are seen afar everything just "reads" almost white so the brighter flowers make more of an impact at a further distance.

Hot colors look great in my front beds by the brick wall, but since I'm redoing them, I'm conflicted which direction to go. The good thing is that most things don't bloom all at the same time.
