Comments (4)I've seen some in the stores for a couple of weeks - haven't checked price: wouldn't want to put this old body at risk of heart attack. I remember first seeing and eating them when I lived in (South) Korea over 60 years sgo just after the Korean War. They had great taste when ripe ... but somewhat puckery when not quite there yet. ole joyful...See MoreWas craving a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup the other day...
Comments (63)I like roasted red bell pepper soup with grilled cheese. I've heard TJ's is good, but it's super easy to make your own. I add serrano pepper to mine for a little bit of heat. Roasted Red Bell Pepper Soup 2 jars roasted red bell peppers or 4 red bell peppers, roasted, seeded, and peeled 2 tablespoons butter 1/3 cup chopped shallots 2 garlic cloves, minced 1 serrano pepper, minced (optional) 3 cups chicken broth 1/4 cup half & half or heavy cream salt and pepper, to taste lemon wedges Saute shallots, garlic, and serrano in butter until soft. Add red peppers. Cook for 2 or 3 minutes. Add broth, cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Remove from heat. Puree with immersion blender until smooth. Add half & half or cream. Season with salt and pepper. Serve with lemon wedges. Don’t forget them! The juice adds a wonderful flavor profile to the finished soup....See MoreCravens Craving
Comments (11)That's to bad Martin, I was also hoping for some new varieties but I wasn't successful with all. I must wait next season for Ponte Tresa, and a few others, Ponte Tresa dropped figs once they reach quarter size. Q is that all that you using as a putting mix ? You don't add pine bark chips or anything else ? I have tried diferent mixes, like 50/50 cow manure and Pro mix PH at root pruning and potting which really didn't need fertilizer, figs tasted just like the other that was fertilized, same time ripening too. I am really trying to succeed growing fig trees in ground, containers are getting heavy, and will be much heavieri n 5 years 😲 My husband can't help, as he is very slowly recovering from stroke. I do have some fig trees permanently attachedt to a caddy, they are 19, 25, 32 gallon garbage containers, I have a way to transport those. I either succeed at growing in ground or make caddy forgat last 8 more, but which one to to keep and which one get rid of, don't even want to think about 😞...See MoreCravens Craving Ripening
Comments (3)Nice looking figs Martin 🙂 I would like to see one of your VdB, because you mentioned that you last one to ants if I remember correctly, iis this VdB same as the one that you had before right ? What is different about this one ? I have Negronne and VdB the tree foliage and structure look to same but Negronne has always produced slightly larger figs, but most fig growers say that Negronne is actually VdB. I had some figs ripening too. As you know I have about 35 different variety because I am still testing / trying which I like and preform the best here. If I don't like some variety I give it to someone that's interested. Those are the latest. I had Black Greek, Hardly Chicago, Melanzana, Osbourne Prolific, LattarOla, Lattarula, Florea, De La Reina this one is late fig variety and always seems I pick it too early Yes, we are almost at the end of season.
