HelpNeeded - A/C Replace Quote/Options
Comments (13)I would tend to agree on the 13 SEER basic, saving some money. But here is the question: The XR15 has a warranty that is 10-Year Compressor, Coil, and functional parts. The 13 SEER Trane (XB13) has 10-Year Compressor, BUT only 5-Year Coil, 5-Year functional parts. So 13 Seer is cheaper upfront, but 5 years less on warranty. Is that worth it to save the cost now? Also, on 13 SEER, I understand that I would not qualify to get any tax credits ($500) or tax rebate (another $500). After all the credits, the XR15 would cost $6177.00. The XB13 would cost me $5737. For $440 difference, I get the XR15 and the longer warranty. Thoughts??...See MoreReasonable Window Replacement Quote?
Comments (12)I hesitate to even reply to your question given the complexities involved with properly mounting stained glass panels. Regarding the SG panel itself, pricing depends on several factors including the artisan or manufacturer brand, window panel size, and the chosen design complexity. A quality panel with a simpler design for an average sized window would be around $500 per panel. A larger panel or something with a more complex design can easily go well over $1,000. Regarding SG panel mounting, we are in the process of selecting a SG craftsman in Portland to repair and re-install eight SG panels after the casement windows are replaced. The contractor we chose to do the window replacement mainly emphasized the importance of selecting a window that provides a substantial amount of solid wood and space/clearance inside to support the mounts used to hold the SG panels in place. I have no experience beyond that, meaning there may be many other ways to safely mount SG panels on other types of windows made with different materials other than wood. Like us, I would suggest contacting a local SG artisan to inspect your windows, identify your design and obtain a quote. Comments (43)Haller Enterprise came yesterday afternoon. He had the correct key and measured the refrigerant level from the heating side and said that he got a 9. He also measured the temperatures on the attic and got a delta T of 20 F. He was happy with the refrigerant level. He did say that the auxiliary heating strip was too small - when the auxiliary heating was on, he could only get 8 F temperature rise. He patched the hole behind the thermostat where the wires come and said that there might be some cold current affecting the thermostat reading. He said that there is nothing he can do - he said that the machine works normally. But he could not explain why the heat pump does not cycle normally. He tried to tell us that the HVAC meets the temperature setting (currently 67 F) and it was wired correctly. So we are back to square one. It just does not run normal for me - the thermostat says that the temperature reaches the setting, but the heat pump just continues to run and run. It runs continuously at lower outside temp (in the 30s), very limited stops (when outside temp in the 40s - the heat pump would run and run and occasionally it will stop for about one minute). I can only see clear cycles when the outside temp in the 50s. I worry how long will the system last and how high the electric bill would be if it does not run normally. I do not know if we should return the system or not. Thanks....See MoreReplacement windows brand
Comments (3)Harry yes I am aware that all products with "lifetime warranty" is always severely limited. I'm just stating that the manufacturer warranties are the same, and I'm wondering what if any differences there are. W on W thanks - that's good to know as I'd heard of millguard but not Simonson, but I've never had to replace windows before so haven't shopped for them. Both installers have excellent reputations and were recommended by others, so I'm sure we will be happy....See MoreGray Machinery Company
