Kitchen Aid or Bosch dishwasher??
Comments (17)Be aware that the brand of soap you use can make a huge difference. We had a terrible Kenmore/GE 1989 DW which couldn't clean anything. Finally switched to a KA KUDS30IVS and fell in love with its performance - BUT, recently we started using a 'green' gel detergent and the performance is terrible. The only times this stuff has done a decent job is when I had a really dirty load so I used the "High-Temp Scrub" which heats the water to an extra-hot 160 degrees - then the load came out fine. We're going back to Cascade gel, which works great on Normal Cycle with only an occasional need for the "Pot Scrubber" add-on. Cycle is 1 hr 15 min without heated dry, which I never use. The evaporative drying works extremely well, so if I leave the dishes in for an extra hour after the cycle ends, almost everything is dry anyway. One of the tips from this forum was to have the installer put in the special stripping underneath the countertop to deflect any residual steam (the KA doesn't vent through the top, but when you open it up soon after the cycle, a lot of moist hot air comes out). I did a very extensive review and updated review on this model KA, so if you do a search it may still be around - hard to tell with all the dropped older pages, though....See MoreBosch vs KitchenAid dishwasher?
Comments (26)We have had a KA DW for 8 years now. Model KUDSQ1KKSS0 (Superba model, not top of the line, but up there). We were never super happy with it. Early on it didn't clean well and I noticed that several of the holes in the sprayer arm were clogged with food particles. Turned out the grinder motor had died. Extended warranty covered it. A while back the pump also died. I was able to replace that myself at least. The top shelf also seems flimsy on the slides. It often would lean forward and roll out by itself when the door was open. It always wobbled on its slides. We also have problems with glasses coming out with grit quite often. And the four corners we don't load, since we always have issues there. Heavy wash cycle usually does a better job, and I try to use the sanitize cycle at least once a week. Been using the Finish tabs for the last four or five years. I generally use the energy saving dry cycle, which doesn't leave the dishes that dry, but I just let them air dry and it doesn't bother me. I'm surprised that drying is a big issue for many people. Last time when it stopped working, maybe eighteen months ago, had a repairman out to replace the circuit board. He said he does a lot of repairs on kitchenaid dishwashers. It is always the grinder motor, the pump, and then the door springs (which he replaced while he was here). I was suprised to hear that--even though I had experienced issues with mine, I had mostly read good experiences from others. (But I do have a 2002 model). A couple of months ago, the plastic parts on the top rack broke. These are the pieces that hold the rack up and adjust it from the lower height to the upper height. So I'm in the market for a new DW--I'm holding my upper rack together with tie wraps for now. I'm looking at the Bosch or Miele for now. I guess 8 1/2 years is pretty good for this dishwasher. New ones will be more efficient. Just want to get one that works well....See MoreDishwasher Selection Bosch/ KitchenAid/ Jenn Air/ Maytag
Comments (3)I have a Kitchenaid about 2 years and it does a really good job and very quietly. Holds a lot including odd shaped & sized things, washes the dirtiest loads clean and best of all it dries things too. The racks are very sturdy, adjust & move easily. The machine has a soft food disposer, so you don't have to worry about the odd pea, bits of rice, kernals of corn, melon seed or other food waste. They are trapped, pulverized and then flushed away. So there is no filter to hand rinse or odors in the machine. The instructions recommend Cascade or Electrasol detergents and keeping the rinse aid dispenser topped off. Following this advice, everything has worked well. C...See MoreNeed new dishwasher - Bosch 800 series vs Kitchenaid vs Miele?
Comments (28)Most or all miele dealers carry no inventory ! So, being saddled with a non seller isn't really plausible. Mom , it's very surprising that your DISHES weren't dry if you used rinse aid. Things like tupperware lids, sippycup tops, and other plastic items with channels that collect water and have no mass - yes. But those things are often wet out of heated dry makes too. My MIL had a GE with a huge element in the bottom and all the grandkid's stuff was wet after a cycle in that too. Yes, Bosch has cheaper models, but feature for feature (which is hard to align) they are pretty much the same price. Now, factor in that Miele makes all of their units in Germany with astronomical wage scales, ships them here, and pays duty on them, makes me wonder if the Bosch stuff made in rural NC is a tad over priced in comparison ? Still fine machines - and yes, I have a couple of them as well as Mieles....See Morebpath
