Miele, Bosch vs Kitchenaid Dishwashers
Comments (3)Hard Food Disposer-- Miele and Bosch have a filter and almost all modern dishwasher detergent is enzyme based not phosphate based. All you do is scrape your plates and the enzyme takes care of most of the left over food. What is left is on the filter is worked on by the enzymes. Sometimes it dissolves over time but every once in a while you clean the filter. Every 3-12 months depending on how you well you scrape your dishes and how often you use your dishwasher. See link below for good discussion on heated dry vs convection dry. I now have a Miele La Perla II and would never go back to American type dishwasher. When federal regulations allowed phosphates and unregulated amounts of energy and phosphate use American type dishwashers worked very well too. That is really no longer the case. They have to use tiny food disposer motors to meet energy star standards and use far less water to meet federal standards too. Comments (10)I have a 500 series Bosch - a 2 or 3 year old one by now. I really like it but I cannot give you an intelligent dissection of the two only that I really like my Bosch unit. I've had "other" dishwashers in the past in rental apartments I've lived in until I bought our house; I've not really kept track of their brands just that they were various domestic brands. I will say that nothing has washed as brilliantly clean as this Bosch dishwasher. It used to be that I'd have to put something in past DWs especially if quite grimy, and then rewash said item coz *stuff* remained on it but I'd think it was a good deal because the DW did some of the work and I only did the hard graft after the messy bit. Now, however, with the Bosch, this washes so well that I put things in that I decide look too much effort and would take too much scrubbing for me to want to wash. So, while I don't think that I can compare to the KA and your KA in particular, I will say that my mid/500series Bosch is definitely a better performer than any of the set of amorphous domestics/others that I've had in the past. But I will also say that again in my experience, this would not be one of your virtually silent machines. It is very quiet, but it is not silent or nearly silent. I can definitely hear this guy quietly whump-whump-whumping particularly in the first 15 or so minutes of its wash. It is soft, but it is there - perhaps about the same intensity as the fridge fan or compressor or whatever it is that whumps or whirrs in there....See MoreOT sort of: Kitchenaid KUDE60FXSS vs. Miele vs. Bosch vs. ???
Comments (24)Hi there, Sorry about the vent issue. I'm shocked that it wasn't noted somewhere before you bought! I don't have much to add except that I have a Miele in my current kitchen (moving in about 2 weeks) and while I love it, I don't think I'll go that route again. The Miele is gorgeous and very quiet but I've been annoyed many times by a rattling noise that happens when food gets into the disposer/collection part. I've had service out but they can't do anything about it either. We've also had problems with the 'kick plate trim' for lack of a better word. It could be because my unit has a wood panel on the front or maybe my unit wasn't installed properly- even though it was installed by Miele certified people- but about every 6 months that little piece gets moved and jams the door. It's a major pain. I love the third tray and I would consider a Miele again if it was a long term investment type of house but for my next remodel I'm going with much cheaper standard appliances....See MoreNew Dishwasher: KitchenAid vs Bosch
Comments (46)Just to add a data point, I will never buy KA again. Two years ago, KA actually bought back my top-of-the-line dw at full price because the board kept fritzing out and they couldn't replace it. So, because KA did the right thing, I bought another top-model KA (KDTM404) because I'm naive like that. After one year, the new model stopped cleaning dishes. It's out of mechanical warranty by this time and, not wanting to endure any more of KA's "customer service," I and my engineer dad embarked upon repairs. We narrowed the problem down to the pump assembly and purchased another (over $200) to replace it. Get the dw apart and, surprise, the assembly doesn't fit. It's identical to the old assembly, but something is off. I disassemble the old assembly and discover that the metal impeller in the old pump has shredded itself. So we frankensteined the old assembly to the pump from the new assembly and after a weekend's worth of labor the dw now works again, who knows for how long. None of this answers the question of why a pump in a year-old, very expensive dishwasher would spontaneously self-destruct. No, I do not place auto parts, road gravel, or shrapnel in the dw. It also doesn't answer why KA can't make parts correctly. So no more KA. Ever....See Moreplllog
