Comments (8)We are extremely please with our Bosch 800 Plus SHE68E15UC dishwasher which was installed in October 2009. We continue to enjoy cleaner than ever dishes and sparkling glassware. We use about a tablespoon of Trader Joe's dish washing detergent, plus Jet Dry in the rinse aid dispenser. Our water is very hard so the water softener is a great feature. The Bosch requires that you select the level of softening (0 - 7, I think), whereas the Miele apparently does this automatically (can someone confirm this?). We like the cutlery tray. Some people do not like cutlery trays at all, regardless of brand, because they feel it takes extra time to load...even though they also find that unloading can be quicker. The Bosch comes with a cutlery basket, too, that can be used on the lower rack. Miele has some additional baskets/locations to load utensils, too. As far as noise is concerned...I simply do hear the Bosch at all. We've clean the multi-stage microfine filter once in 3 months. We just rinsed it off under the tap...a 30 second job. See a link below for my early posting on my experiences after the installation. Regardless of which dishwasher you end up with, the salt for the water softener can be from Miele (their Somat brand) at about $10 per 2.6 lb box, or Morton's System Saver® II Formula Pellets at about $6 per 40 lb bag, or Cargill's Diamond Crystal® Pellets with Softener Care Formula at about $7 for a 40 lb bag. Comments (24)Hi there, Sorry about the vent issue. I'm shocked that it wasn't noted somewhere before you bought! I don't have much to add except that I have a Miele in my current kitchen (moving in about 2 weeks) and while I love it, I don't think I'll go that route again. The Miele is gorgeous and very quiet but I've been annoyed many times by a rattling noise that happens when food gets into the disposer/collection part. I've had service out but they can't do anything about it either. We've also had problems with the 'kick plate trim' for lack of a better word. It could be because my unit has a wood panel on the front or maybe my unit wasn't installed properly- even though it was installed by Miele certified people- but about every 6 months that little piece gets moved and jams the door. It's a major pain. I love the third tray and I would consider a Miele again if it was a long term investment type of house but for my next remodel I'm going with much cheaper standard appliances....See Moreneed to buy new dishwasher Kitchenaid vs Bosch
Comments (31)Old thread I know, but I did want to sadly, amend my above statement about my Whirlpool dw in case anyone is digging through old threads to decide which brand dw to buy. I did love my Whirlpool dw more than a person should love a dw, but now it is ready for the heap. It was the best dw I ever had and everything always did come out sparkling clean each cycle. But in the last year, I've had 4 or 5 (I've lost count) significant repairs, including a new motor a few months ago. It's current death knell is the new motor is dead. I am done having to wait weeks on end for the repair tech to come out, decide the problem, order the part, then wait weeks longer to make it onto his schedule to replace parts. The machine has been out of service as much as it was in service for a year now. Yesterday was my 5 year anniversary of taking delivery of the Whirlpool dw and here I am awaiting delivery of a Bosch dw, that I hope will have a better track record over time. I guess what I am saying is, I hope to get at least 5 trouble-free years out of the new dw. I'm disappointed as I loved this dw and I sorely miss it--been without it's service for nearly a month again. But, now I don't trust that repairs will last any length of time and if a new motor only has a few month life span, I'm not getting back on board with Whirlpool :-( I have no way of knowing if Whirlpool replacement parts are crud or if the repair tech being sent out by the warranty company is the dud. I'll never know at this point. I found this thread because delivery of new Bosch dw has been delayed another week and I wanted to use this grumpy time to do more research to make sure I didn't get myself into another unpleasant situation--this thread showed up on the search results. I'm sorry to report this news, but this thread has been a concern of mine for a year now since all the major problems started happening with my Whirlpool dw and didn't know where it could possibly be in the website here. I'm glad it showed up for my recent search so I could amend my statement. I'm sorry if my above comments led anyone to a troublesome path. Very much so....See MoreBosch Dishwashers—100 vs 300 vs 500 vs 800 Series?
Comments (6)I have a Bosch 500 that is about 3 years old, and it's just fine on drying -- there's still water in the crevices or concave areas. No problem drying plates, glasses, pots, or pans.....Plastics dry better if there are fewer of them in the load (i.e. a lot of plastics in the load will still have some water on them, but with only a few pieces of plastic in the load, they'll be properly dry)......that's because of the way the drying cycle works, without additional heat. I actually like that better - not only is it more energy efficient, it means I can put plastics in the bottom rack, because it is no hotter than the top rack (traditionally, plastics were meant to be in the top rack only, because the heat element was in the bottom). I've also found that not opening the machine right away when it stops actually helps the plastics dry better (I suppose because there's still enough heat in the machine to dry them)....See MoreRelated Professionals
