6 1/2 or 7 ft. long island. 2 or 3 pendants?
Comments (18)I had this exact same issue when I started designing my kitchen a few months back. My island will also be 6.5' long, and I ended up drawing the setup in autocad with the dimensions I was interested in. I ended up settling on the configuration in the image I attached. The island is 6.5 long, and the pendants are 14" in width. I think ultimately there's no right answer in a vacuum, depends on the other elements in your kitchen. Our island sits prominently in the middle of the kitchen and is the focal point when you first walk in. Our cabinets are also very simple, done purposefully so we could go a bit more extravagant on the finishing details including islanding lighting, hardware, and faucets. We played around with lights bigger than these and it didn't look right. We also played around with 2 light setups and it felt off to me. Good luck with what you choose!...See MoreHelp choosing lighting for kitchen island!
Comments (5)Thanks for these suggestions! Jan is right, I didn’t get any replies here for a while so settled on the white Agnes pendant. But I really like your suggestion Irene of the Tom Dixon beats line and found replicas on France and Son for much less. What do you think of buying them here? https://www.franceandson.com/products/mid-century-modern-beat-light-wide2353...See MorePendants for my 8' by 3.5' kitchen island - Help needed!!
Comments (5)Only the island size and ceiling height matter. A 96 inch island is perfectly fine with two larger pendants, and by larger I mean no more than about 15/18 inches in width. You can also do a linear fixture at about 48 to even 54 inches in width! The tinier threesome has "sailed" to a degree : ) Circa lighting, three finishes below...See MoreDesign Dilemma: 2 or 3 Pendant Lights Over Off Centered Island???
Comments (12)IMO the space is very crowded and not a good work space . I don't even think sinks need to be at windows since we spend so little time at sinks if we use out DWs properly and to place a sink to look out at the great room really makes no sense . If the stools are in use there is no way to access the stuff behing them all the walkways are too small . Are you an actual KD or just an ID Kitchen design begins with function and clients need to be guided by that function . Often clients need to be told when something they want will just not work.IMo first fix the function then worry about the pendants ....See Morekudzu9
