Flat-Front Home with Side-Facing Door
Comments (26)Really nice house. Yard already has the beginnings of curb appeal with the bricked path. If you don't use a front yard patio, don't keep one. Consider adding a row of plants on both sides of your bricked path to outline it -- perhaps liriope https://www.pinterest.com/pin/88101736443381440/ -- or another plant to line your bricked path that is suitable to your planting zone. https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Plants+to+Line+a+Walkway&FORM=RESTAB and then focus on finding a good shade friendly grass or other ground cover easily maintained by mowing -- perhaps clover or something else that is suitable for your planting zone -- for the rest of the yard. While having a door open toward the side of the house doesn't seem ideal, the reasons this was done are obvious: -- the door is facing the driveway on that side of the house and, more importantly, -- it enables the house to have (not just the one) two large forward facing window groupings. Unless you're willing to give up all the natural light the second window grouping brings into the home, the door would need to stay where it is. If you're considering changing the front windows on the left side of the house anyway, you could enclose what is now the porch to create a new, one with the door forward facing in the new front exterior wall. You could then add a new porch by extending the roof of the forward facing gable another 8' or so....See MoreNeed design help with front door/face of house
Comments (5)without taking into consideration the floorplan, the "best place" for the front door is replacing one of the windows on the right side.... that could give you room for a really nice porch. since the current door is going into that space sideways, there is hope.......See MoreNeed help with front exterior color, doors and windows
Comments (2)IMO all the windows should be the same style . Is that a garage on the left side ? There is no reason a closet can't have a window I happen to love the window in my closet . As for someone to help go to find a pro on this site that is in your area. BTW where is your architect in this process that is really the person you need to discuss this with. I would need to see your choices but they seem a bit off to me color wise. I like black windows for sure and tan and gray do not work together in my head....See MoreHelp Needed: Front Porch, Exterior and Landscape Design
Comments (13)Find a window that is near the size of those in the dormers. It also needs to match the number of panes (6) in the dormer windows. You don't need to mirror the dormers only the windows in them. You need a carpenter to cut a hole in the garage gable for the window, then place framing for the window on the interior of the cutout. The window is put in place, secured and trim to match the rest of the house is cut and fitted to the outside. Adding a vent uses the same cut and frame, but doesn't require matching other features unless you have other gable vents that you wish to match. Vents are made in square, rectangular, triangular, round, half round, arched and octagonal shapes. They should have metal screen or hardware cloth on the inside to keep small birds and such from getting into attic space. This can be added if not part of the vent as sold....See Morelahelms
