Maybe I should also do an entire section at the side of my yard just roses.. mmmmmmmn... gonna have to share my new list with you all. Palentines Ice Girl Freelander Janet carnochan Lions fairy tale Summer Memories Rosarium Ueterson Red Cosair Laguna Roses unlimited Cecile Brunner SDLM Sombreiel 2 darlow egnima 2 crepscule MAC Coltide supert Zephie I thought I orderes Westerland too.. but may have not Thanks all for your words of advice, and wowzer.. now to figure it all out. Yes, we are talking.. the typical 8 foot arch over a sidewalk, I am scared now what to plant there I have already, purchased from last year/ my first roses ever ordered- 2 compassion,2 rev d or, climbing pinkie- which is just a big wild bush thing now,(never flowered),carefree beauty, 2 New Dawns, 2 edens.. I think they died.. or one did, started moving them around due to one of the edens from my memory- just simply started to dry out.. it was soooo strange, no matter how much it was watered it was as if it wasnt absorbing the water, moved it.. but it turned black!!!, and I also have a abrahmam darby, and double delight. But then again moved flowers around mid summer, to see if they would do better in a different location.. etc/ and I dont know what flower is what.. LOL, that'll be next summer with everyone here, snapping photos and asking what these are.. hehehhe Thank you all for all your support....See MoreWhat Climbing Rose to plant with my Wisteria?
Comments (20)Thanks for the compliments and suggestions. Bart 2010 - to answer your question, the rose and the wisteria are planted about 4-4.5 metres apart. The rose is growing up on the left of the photo, just below where the flowers are. The wisteria is planted at the far right of the photo, where that large cluster of blooms is hitting the ground. Overall, the wisteria covers about 11 metres across the fence. But it does send out runners along the ground and tries to put down roots along the fenceline. Plus it is very heavy, so you need a strong wall to support it, like I have. It is really magnificent, and I think worth the effort. I would think the minimum distance apart for planting would be 3 metres, based on the age of my plants. Thanks windeaux for identifying my rose - I've always wondered what it is - it is very pretty and old fashioned, I just wish it bloomed more often, so I could enjoy it for longer! And obviously, the thorns are a bit of a nightmare....See MoreClimbing rose for my arbor
Comments (10)A number of the Austins would make lovely climbers for an arbor that size. I have Crown Princess Margareta on my arbor and Teasing Georgia as a climber on a trellis along the wall of the house (both apricots; nice fruity scent). Brother Cadfael (huge pink blooms, thornless) also does nicely here. One of my absolute favorite Austins that would work as a short climber is Jude the Obscure, beautiful flowers (still flowering now! a yellow blend) and an absolutely amazing scent--even better than Abraham Darby if you can believe it. Pretty light on the thorns too. Strawberry Hill is another pink with a myrrh scent that has a climbing habit in my zone and is always in bloom. And Graham Thomas is a rock-solid reliable yellow that would make a lovely climber for an arbor--rich yellow, with a strong Tea scent. That is a few of my favorite Austins with a climbing habit at present, although there are many more that would be suitable....See MoreApricot climbing rose for my arbour.
Comments (40)I haven't ordered anything yet, as the office of the nursery that has all the roses I want, is closed until the end of September. Unless I hear of any reason why not, I am going to have Claire Austin up the back of the arbour and Ali Baba for the sides. This is very different to my usual taste, but I have become one of those disgraceful old ladies who says and does outrageous things with glee. I am also going to grow two, white dipladenias up the sides. Definitely over the top, especially as there are already two stephanotis on the arbour. Daisy...See Morejmackie139
