Fiddle leaf fig - Are these early symptoms of fungus or root rot?

RS

Its been just a week since we bought a 4 ft Fiddle Leaf Fig from our local nursery. The plant looked gorgeous and healthy at the time of buying. On Sunday I noticed the top leaves were drooping a bit and the top couple of inches of the soil felt dry to touch. I watered it with almost an entire pitcher and left it in the bathroom to completely drain. However, in the last 3-4 days, I've noticed prominent brown spots on all of the lower leaves with some minor cracking. One of the lower leaves dropped on its own this morning. The larger leaves at the top have a couple of tiny brown spots and they all seem to be cracking or tearing up around the edges.

Please help with your suggestions and ideas on what might be causing this and how do I contain the browning and cracking.

Much thanks!

Is it ok for roots to be visible at the surface?
