Comments (6)marti8a- I have spray painted metal towel bars, TP holder and door handles successfully. Here are the steps: Strip the lacquer with paint thinner. If it is only brass plated (as mine were) you will strip down to the bare steel. Lightly sand with fine sandpaper. Lightly spray 3+ coats with your choice of finish, sanding lightly between coats. Spray a clear coat if you like it shiny. I used matte black on the bathroom fixtures and most door handles and a shiny purple for my DD's room. Even with no clear coat and daily use (and we are hard on stuff) they have all held up well. If you strip all of the lacquer off, sand well to rough up the surface, spray using a light hand, sand between the first couple of coats, let dry thoroughly (I prefer 24 hours) between coats and spray at least 3 coats they should hold up well. Good luck- sandyponder...See MoreRecently spray painted door knob getting tacky
Comments (20)Op, I did what you did on some bathroom door/drawer pull. I soak them to get clear coating off the brass, sanded every nook and cranny so would get good adhesion. Sprayed a couple (2-3) of very thin coats, drying for a couple of days in between. Applied clear coat, oh I also did a primer for metal I wanted this to last. I was also wanting to do to kitchen pulls (same ones) . After about 9 months all my careful work started chipping off. As for tackiness on your drawer pulls. Maybe coating was to thick. Also it cures better/ faster in a warm room with good air circulation. A clear coat won't protect the underlying paint if not fully cured. Maybe a bad batch of paint, or old possibly reasons for it not curing. I don't know what else it could be....See MoreWhat is the best spray paint brand and color for antique brass finish
Comments (2)It depends on what you are applying the brass finish to. For most applications, I think RubNBuff looks more authentic then spray paint....See MoreUser
