Paint color comparison experiment

Picture of BM Richmond Gray from a painted up sample and the “blob” you get online when you search for images.

The painted sample matches the fan deck, but the larger sample looks much brighter and greener IRL. The blob image found online is grayer. Once fed through my camera and seen on my monitor, the fan deck matches neither. Plus it went through photoshop.

Which illustrates that you have to buy the pints and paint up larger samples and not rely on anything you find online that is supposed to represent the color. Also below is my inspiration photo for the color from Laurel Bern’s website, which looks nothing like the fan deck color or the blob and is cleaner and a tiny bit bluer. It’s purported to be the same color but I think she often uses approximations.

The paint your room app on the BM website gave me a similar lighter, yellowy greener, somewhat sickly color when I tried it, not too far off from the actual paint sample.
