Pictures of high-gloss painted white shaker cabinets?
Comments (3)Someone else could probably answer this better than me, but I'm sure that spraying the lower gloss is another option. It's just not one of the options that was initially presented. Hopefully I'll know more when I receive the samples on Wednesday!...See MoreBrookhaven vs Medallion vs Dura Supreme?
Comments (25)elisalinscott - I know a few people that have Dura Supreme cabinets and love them. My mother has some that are about 7 years old I think and she loves them still. I'm planning a kitchen remodel in the next 2-3 years and have been seriously considering them. When I was looking at reviews I ran into a site called kitchencabinetsreviews.com and got thrown off, but I was curious what organization the site was with, it didn't say how they were really associated with cabinets. Then I looked up who owns the web address and found that the owner of that website also is the owner of a website for an online cabinet company called US Home Products that sells MidContinent cabinetry which seemed kind of odd if you ask me. I've seen a few other review sites that look fishy for other products too. You gotta be careful where you get your advice. The best thing to do is find someone who actually owns the product and also see it and test it in person. Hopefully HAGS00 will respond and let us know what they think of their purchase. I'd love to know too....See MoreHow much are new kitchen cabinets?
Comments (8)One thing you could do to answer your basic question is to go to Home Depot and have them draft up a plan. Take your measurements with you. Last I heard the kitchen people at HD don't work on commission, so you don't have to feel bad about taking up their time knowing that what you're mapping out isn't actually what you're going to do. You can even tell them what you're doing and they'll help you out. It's all done on computer and it isn't difficult for them to plan a kitchen in Cabinet A, get a price, then price the same thing (more or less) in Cabinet B. As you do this you'll be thinking about lower drawers, super susans, trash pullouts, and other things that drive up the cost. Don't forget to add in stuff like finished ends, fillers, toe kicks, and top molding. This isn't the kitchen you're actually going to go with, but it will give you an idea of what you're talking about. It's a reality check. If the numbers are in the manageable range for you, you can move on to seriously considering what you want in your kitchen and how you want to put it together. You could go back to HD or approach a local kitchen company or a local cabinet maker. Do read Live Wire Oak's last paragraph again. The other costs involved are real and the advice about finding the "right" professional is spot on. We've done 2 kitchens in the last 5 years (much to our surprise we moved) and our cabinet costs were more like 75% of the total, but we did a lot of the work ourselves....See Morewhite shaker cabinets, wood beam accents, white quartz, appliances?
Comments (27)I would remove from the equation the idea of white appliances having an effect on resale. No one says "I love the house, but forget it, it has a white range!" What is key to this whole discussion and has not been addressed is how much are you willing to spend on your appliances. The solution to your dilemma would be to panel the dishwasher and the fridge, and the fridge must be a fully-integrated style to pull this off. This will be very expensive. For the range, there are some lovely white ranges out there by Bertazzoni, Bluestar, Smeg, Miele, Lacanche for example, but those tend to be much more expensive than the old-style type of white range. There was a recent thread where someone posted about a white Kitchenaid range that looked fresh and not old-style, and was not priced as high as the other names I've mentioned, so look into that. I have a panelled DW, stainless fridge, white range, and stainless hood. I love it. The range is so easy to clean compared to a stainless range. The pairing of the white range with the stainless hood looks clean and fresh. The DW panelling does not show water drips the way stainless does. I was not willing to pay the $9000+ for an integrated fridge, so I am fine with my stainless one. (I am "lusting" a little for the white Miele fridge that Miller pictured above). One last note - your mention of the wood beams worries me. I know it's not what you asked, but adding wood beams has the potential to look very nice or to look artificial, "faux". A lot depends on your ceiling height. Make sure you have thought this through....See Morekompy
