I don't have advice about your floor. I do have experience with barn wood walls though. The house we bought had it on three walls of the family room with brick on the fourth wall. We lived with it for a number of years and it had some advantages - like I could move art around at will because you couldn't see small nail holes. About five years ago we ripped it out and put up sheetrock. No regrets at all. I like rustic but the barn wood was depressing, IMO. The one wall of brick is enough rusticity in the room I think. The brick and the window are lovely, is that leaded glass? If it were my home I would not change anything about the homes exterior and would focus instead entirely on landscape/hardscape. First I'd stop shearing the shrubs and let them return to a more natural open look. I'd remove a portion of the lawn and extend the front entrance area into a courtyard, with a short wall or fence, add a stone bench and a low fountain, maybe a bubbler. Then I'd add a curved plant lined pathway through the yard to the front door. I'd finish with outdoor lighting throughout the planted areas, with "up light" on the largest shrubs.

IMO the house has too many "embellishments" already which, sadly, weren't properly planned for. Suggest removing all the window pediments, the left side upper windows don't have room for them - thereby making the facade appear more unbalanced than it already is. No to shutters. Experiment to find the best size for wide trim around all windows, in the same color as the frames. This will add the right amount of "color contrast" (something which was attempted by adding the shutters). Yes to better and more foundation plantings. PS I noticed the mismatched "boards" of siding right away, sorry you didn't catch it while under warranty.

What room is this? Dining Room???? I have been watching Escape to the Country the British equivalent of House Hunters and most would kill for such a lovely feature in their home. I would use gas logs that are lifted off the floor using andirons and add all the other accessories appropriate for this type of fireplace. I'm guessing you might be living in some type of colonial style home.
