Last flooring change for aging couple

User

We're in our mid-sixties. Not coffin shopping yet, but heading toward the finishing line. 1,275 sq ft ranch on a slab. Kitchen engineered hardwood installed 12 years ago and still looks phenomenal. Living room/hallway are speckled Berber, at least 25 years old and looking very tired. Foyer tile that is chipping with disintegrating grout under an area rug.

Consideration: husband is a musician and several times a week rolls heavy equipment from his office (middle bedroom) through the hallways to the front door. AND, no one (no judgment please) takes off their shoes to enter. No pets, 3 young grandkids.

So, do I want engineered hardwood in the hallway and what are the chances I'll locate something that will match the connecting kitchen floor? Will the music equipment create ruts in it? Or should I again go with an indestructible Berber? And if so, what's a bulletproof carpet? Looking for least amount of maintenance and longest wear.
