What size picture works best for this room?
Comments (10)I think the larger picture works much better. It doesn't bother me to have items overhead the bed (I have a large mirror), but this looks like it's for a child's bedroom. I would take engineerchic's concern to heart for a child, who may have different sensibilities than an adult. At Christmas, we had a beautiful sparkly star hung from the ceiling in our family room, a room with a high cathedral ceiling. Our 9 year old grandson expressed concern it might fall on him during the night (he slept on the sofa). He also makes sure the shower curtain is open in the guest bath before usng it because he told us he's afraid someone might jump out at him. He is not normally a fearful kid; he's usually extremely self-confident. Kids sometimes have fears they don't express or maybe don't even know how to verbailize; he's just good at expressing them to us. Dee...See MoreWhat size area rug for dining room?
Comments (11)I just can't see a 9x12 in there as that would then mean the carpet going into the walkway to our bedroom. I do have a runner there now if the carpet has any kind of pattern to it on the edges, I think that would look off. Since the DR part is basically 10'8" x 10'8", there would only be a foot on each side of the table with the width with a 8X10. That means the back legs of the china cabinet would be off the rug and the front would be on it. Perhaps the same thing with the buffet on one corner. I found an octagonal one that is 7'9" that I was hoping would work. That seemed to work when I pulled out the chairs and sat back down. I guess because you come from the LR into that narrower part of the room, I think the larger the rug is the more croweded it would look, esp. with all the tile that is showing in the LR. BTW, I love my tile, it doesn't show abit of dirt and is easy to damp mop but just wanted to add a little warmth to the room. Thanks for all the suggestions, keep them coming. Comments (8)stinky - will do. After checking out sizes using a tape measure in the DR, an 8x10 would be practically wall-to-wall as bac mentioned. I need to get the furniture before I get the rug anyway, so the furniture will determine rug size. One thing I hate is when the legs get caught on a rug's edge. I found chairs that I really like in my casual style, and priced well, especially being solid wood (no veneer), so I'm waiting on a wood sample from the company. Once I have that, I can find a table that works well with the chairs. Unfortunately, the matching table as shown in last pic of these chairs is just too small at 36x60 oval. I'd prefer one at least 42-44" wide and a little longer. I understandand because of the pedestal, the chairs can't be pushed in all the way. That would bother me, so here I am looking for another table. Here's the chair in a Golden Cherry stain....See MoreDoes this rug size work?
Comments (8)I think it will probably work to define your seating area. I wouldn't worry about the portion of the wood floor that's exposed - just leave it bare. You could possibly use a slightly larger rug in this space (10x14 or so - it might need to be placed so that more of it is underneath your sofa instead of exactly centered, just depending on how it looks) but since you really like the rug you posted, if I were you I'd keep it....See Moretetheridge0315
