Does this rug size work?
Finally, we're in the finishing stages of remodeling the living room of our rather boring center hall colonial style home. The room size is 14x17. I've been looking at rugs for some time and finally came across one that I really like at Marshalls. It's 8x11. The room will eventually have some furniture from our family room consisting of a classic, tight back sofa and 2 chairs (1 is shown in photo) along with a side table or two, and something small in front of the sofa. Not sure what else may be going into the room furniture wise, though, since this room will get little use, I prefer an airy feel - not too much "stuff" in there, and no TV.
The sofa will probably go along the long wall. Not sure where the placement of chairs will go. The front door is to the left of the pic where the tile floor is. Disregard the table with lamp.
Does this rug look too small for the room? Not sure what to do with all the floor space as you walk into the room that isn't covered...maybe a throw rug??. Though I love the rug, I won't hesitate to return it and keep looking. Feedback please. Thanks.

Comments (16)I like the rug. I would put the front legs of the two sofas on the rug....maybe a couple of inches. I would bring the corner chair in (upholstered one) so it is just sitting on the rug....could put a floor lamp behind/beside it. Do you really need the wooden chair in the other corner? I would put it somewhere else and bring your plant out of the corner more. Now you could try the ottoman in front of the couch/loveseat or get a smallish coffee table....probably square. I would try the ottoman first. Oh yes, forgot...If you use the ottoman as a coffee table, I would upholster the chair in the same color as the ottoman....you can brighten up things with brighter pillows. One other thing.....would you want to try your rug the other way....just to see what it looks like. I don't know what is behind the green couch you have but with rug the other way, you could have a nice conversation grouping....See MoreDoes rug work?

Comments (9)Thanks everyone. I'm on a tight budget (no more than $400) so a custom made rug is out of the question. I am a very earthy girl and love earthy colors and accessories, so the rug I have now was a HUGE step outside my comfort zone......but I have grown to love the colors.
